KANSAS CITY CARBON FREE 2020?!?!

A bold election season pledge earns coverage from amateur urban planners across the nation who mistakenly take this town's campaign promises seriously. Take a look:

Kansas City Will Make Its Government 100 Percent Carbon-Free by Next Year

An ordinance passed unanimously directs the city manager to transition from carbon-producing energy sources by the end of 2020.

And in a related story, the KCMO council "directed" the city manager to have sunny days of 72 degrees for every Chief's and Royals' games, as well as for the Big 12 Tournament.
No mention made of maintaining streets or effectively working to reduce the crime and homicide rates.
Fantasyland on the plains.

So this passage directs the city to buy 25 acres to build a solar farm. Wonder who the connected landowner is on this who is about to make a fortune selling the land to the city. There is always some backstory to KCMO politics and it’s disgusting. This city isn’t going to be carbon free it’s a stunt. Think about how much groundwater pollution is actively taking place right now because of the city sewer system leaks. They still have sewers with 100 year old pipes leaking god knows what into the water supply because of poor management to replace them years ago.

How about all the trash the bums leave under the bridges and the campsites? Let’s stop with the feel good talk and start taking real action.

"It also directs the city to purchase more all-electric or hybrid electric vehicles and to achieve Energy Star certification for most city buildings by 2023."

Had the money spent on the new failed fair weather toy trains been used to purchase these vehicles this item would be crossed off the city's list.

Definitely agree with 7:54 about the failing infrastructure.

In order to repair a broken wind turbine companies have to use a carbon generating helicopter. Makes sense.

"But Kansas City legislators believe the change will eventually save taxpayers money."

“It’s a savings for all taxpayers because electricity is paid out of our general fund,” Taylor told Fox 4.

Hilarious

The only way to get to carbon free power generation give current technology is to switch to nuclear. And I am sure that the city would not be able to get authorization to build a nuclear power plant in a year, never mind to actually build one.

Carbon free airport? Electric planes on order? This city council is fucking hillary-ous. As stated above, no train would have paved a lot of streets. Fuck MLK, 18th & Vine and the bow tie slob of a mayor.

@9:30 your heretical statement is the absolute truth. The only way to reduce a "carbon footprint" is to switch to the highest efficiency industrial power generation method the world has ever seen, nuclear. There are some legitimate issues with it, the plants are very expensive to construct (even without considering the BS redtape designed to eliminate nuke power construction). The high power levels the plants generate require much more space between them, leading to significant transmission losses where the infrastructure is not fully built in.

None of the claims of this story are true. Carbon free? That's simply not possible. What happens when there is no wind and sun? No electricity because technology capable of storing enough energy from panels and wind to run the city does not exist. City facilities will still have to use the conventional power grid most of the time. How about cheaper for taxpayers? Crock. More expensive. Even if the energy obtained from sun and wind is sold to KCP&L, it costs three to five times as much per kilowatt hour to make electricity from these sources. In other words, the city will spend so much money generating a marginal supply of power that it can't possibly result in a net savings to the city. This is a political stunt, not serious energy policy. While other city infrastructure falls apart. Vote out anybody who supports this scam.

... and you think your taxes are high now? Hah. Just wait 'till the bill comes due for this green energy dream. The only thing green will be the money wasted. Wind energy... great idea, as long as the wind is blowing. Solar? Very cool, as long as the sun is out.

We need politicians who have a basic understanding of... well, anything!

Hey, I know, lets move to Kansas City, the government is green! Hey, wait a minute... look at those taxes! Nope. Not going there.

Why do we need a new airport when the latest democrat new green deal gets rid of airplanes?

Remember that other dem fraud al gore who made a fortune on climate fear while flying in jets and living in a mansion? These people are a joke.
