TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! KANSAS CITY STAR SMACKS DOWN POLITICALLY MOTIVATED REPUBLICAN SLAPP LAWSUIT OVER ALLEGED STEVE ROSE MISQUOTE!!!

Reality check for all of our favorite amateur lawyers . . .

If politicos could sue for every time they feel they've been misquoted, there would never be another news article written.

Remember that we talked this case previously and mentioned SLAPP lawsuits and the politico from Nowheresville, USA attempting to make a name for himself.

Today's update from The Star basically notes that their defense confirms a lot of our ideas about the case:

The Star, citing ‘utter hypocrisy,’ seeks dismissal of Kansas lawmaker’s defamation suit

Money line . . .

“This has been a politically motivated and frivolous lawsuit from day one—the very definition of a SLAPP suit,” Rhodes said in an email. “That’s why we are asking the court to order Senator Denning to pay The Star’s attorney’s fees—under the anti-SLAPP statute that Senator Denning voted for.”

Remember, political speech has a great many protections thanks to the 1st Amendment. Even better, defamation and libel suits are a tough sell in courts.

Example: Stormy Daniels wanted to sue Prez Trump for defamation and the Commander-In-Chief even went on record to call her "horse face" and prove a great deal of ACTUAL MALICE directed her way . . . Yet the Prez prevailed.

Stormy Daniels Ordered To Pay Trump $293,000 In Fees In Defamation Lawsuit

And so, once again we contend . . .

STEVE ROSE IS AN INNOCENT MAN AND THE DESPERATE KANSAS GOP CRYBABY WHO HATES FREE SPEECH RISKED A GREAT DEAL BY CRYING WOLF OVER A NOTHING-BURGER OF AN ALLEGED MISQUOTE!!!

Weird that The Star is totally in the right on this one and their legal team is shredding this lawsuit quickly. Meanwhile, even a few of the some of GOP hired guns have expressed skepticism, whilst only some washed up hack and another washed up lawyer have wasted their time talking out of their depth and claiming "danger" when all they're really revealing is petty Schadenfreude given that neither one of them have seen the inside of a newsroom in at least a decade.

Here at TKC, we hope to ignore the partisan hackery of this issue and focus on FREE SPEECH which, in this case, is on the side of Steve Rose and The Star . . . It's the only advantage they have but luckily it's all they need.

Developing . . .

  1. Rose got very lucky. He should probably hang up his spurs.

  2. well hopefully the cost of the stars legal team fighting this will cost them enough to lay some more people off

  3. I support Denning. He's got a great tally whacker!

  4. Steve Rose is deceitful and lacks integrity. Not like Tony at all, so I'm surprised Tony defends him.
Steve is not a reporter, he quit Jschool in college, and once in Viet Nam, jumped off a transport bus bound for the front-- to beg the brass to reassign him to writing puff pieces to send to Daddy and other suburban papers...Great pitch story is out there.

I heard that Rose lied to Denning, claiming he WOULD resign the STAR if Denning would drop the charges and the story. But had already "resigned", knowing he would be fired.

Just because the STAR lawyer filed a motion does not mean the judge will drop the charges. There's many a slip twixt the column and the hip?!

The Star lawyer's motion was very snarky. Unprofessional. Even a biased judge does not appreciate that. If you think about it, the Star's motion was as biased as Steve Rose's final column.

Hmmmm! Kind of underlining the STAR's bias!

    We shall see.

  6. Drop the horseface example.

That was a straight insult and opinion, not an attempt to state a fact about her. It's not covered by defamation statutes.

That said, Denning will lose based on the relevant law.

  9. Just think if Trump decided to sue the one's he doesn't like. LOL...
He would have a courthouse full of defendants. Until the facts became facts, not alternative facts.

  10. Oh My!

Tony repeatedly forgets the facts in this case.

    STEVE ROSE got caught LYING!

He apparently lied to Colleen Nelson, falsely attributing quotes to Sen. Denning, when she questioned his submission.

We know he lied about Sen. Denning, because after he got caught, he offered to resign his editorial post if Denning dropped the issue. That's a guilty man!

Sen. Denning stated that he hadn't spoken to Rose in 1-2 years, the attributed quotes were false, and backed up his words by filing suit. That's a truthful man!

The basis of this case is all about honoring TRUTH, PROFESSIONALISM, and ETHICS. Steve Rose failed on all 3 counts, and a civil society should hold him accountable.

  11. It's not a matter of being misquoted. Steve Rose and the Star made up quotes that created fake news. You can't make stuff up then cry free speech.

  12. It's pretty clear Tony's got some sort of hope of replacing Rose the way he's sucking off the Red Star editors with these articles...
