Parent Company Of The Kansas City Star Offers Buyouts To 450 Of Its Employees

McClatchy Co., the parent company of The Kansas City Star and the Wichita Eagle, is offering buyouts to about 10 percent of its workforce. In an email to employees on Friday, McClatchy President and CEO Craig Forman said the company was "rolling out two major initiatives," including "a voluntary early retirement program for qualified colleagues, as we continue to align the size of our workforce to the changes that come with digital transformation."

  3. When the Star has as a point-of-sale advertisement for the Sunday paper the amount of grocery coupons enclosed in their paper, you have to think that the end can't be too far off.

  4. Gotta wonder who received one of the "invitations" to take early retirement.

    They've had so many layoffs and buyouts over the years that few veterans remain standing.

    On the editorial board, maybe Helling and Kraske will exit together like the odd pair of Yael Abracadabra and Lewis DoBad.
