Kansas City Weekly Power Rankings

Tonight we consider classic hottie Jordan amid the constant cowtown will to power . . .

Lifehacker: How to Control a Conversation, According to a Dominatrix

And to conclude this work week of big talk and sketchy numbers here's a glimpse at people who challenged the status quo and posed important questions to the powers that be . . .

Council Triumvirate Talking New KCI

This week the new airport "deal" was announced despite the lack of any real agreement. Turns out it was mostly a campaign stunt and cynical attempt to trick supporters into the illusion of progress. Even worse, the new KCI price tag is now the earning tragic Hollywood accounting treatment that doesn't include financing charges over the long term.

Thankfully, Council ladies Loar & Hall along with Councilman Scott Wagner seem to be a bit more skeptical about promises from the airlines and this week worked to read the fine print and uncover more of the costly deets.

Show-Me Patrick Tuohey Arguing Policy

On one of our favorite weekly talk shows, this KC Conservative denizen challenged chamber honcho Jim Heeter more boldly than anyone has in the past 20 years. Finally, there are tough questions directed at this town's elite who now confront a critical election and public referendum on the development agenda that has overtaken 12th & Oak for nearly a decade.

Cat Reid Reports New KCI Hot Mess

The work of this journalist on the new airport has consistently been some of the best reporting we've seen citywide.  Cat Reid has quickly become one of Kansas City's best resources for reliable info about municipal issues and more locals are starting to take notice of this face.

And so . . .

This list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's a weekly comprehensive guide to local powerful people, trends and our times.

  1. It would be nice if some or any of the candidates for mayor would let their feelings be known. Most of them only mention a few buzzwords like housing or transparency and then move on to the next fundraising event.

    2. Of course the airport is a bad deal but it's not one of the worst in down. Look at how much we're spending on the 18th & Vine district and all we get are shootings. In downtown the P&L district is costing millions every year. KC has a talent for finding money losing projects to support year after year with no return. We're headed toward bankruptcy people and it doesn't look like there's much stopping the progress.

  2. Trump was stronger then all of them! He is the only hope KC has. Think about it.

  6. This was probably one of the most important weeks in the fight against the B.S. of Mayor James and his minions. They really wanted to push this airport over the top this week and a few good questions prevented that. I may not agree with the council members who put the airlines on the spot, but I realize they most likely saved KC at least 90 million dollars this month.

  7. So what passes for "power players" in KCMO consists of a handful of electeds who have made a complete joke of a multi-billion dollar project, a person who regularly has opinions, but who is without any responsibility or ability to actually do anything, and a news "reporter" who reads from a teleprompter.
    Hard hitting!
As Lezak says, "What's happening tonight in the BIG town"!
    What a sad amateurish joke.

I guess we can't all be as smart as some guy commenting on a blog on a Saturday @ 6:37. I'm sure that kind of person has all the answers and is a really big deal and well respected in his own profession.

Keep up the good work from your high horse, the rest of us actually have work to do.
