Kansas City Mourns Citizens Association

This old school column is ridiculously out of touch . . . So much so that I was tempted to just politely ignore it but it's too painfully oblivious not to at least quickly challenge simply to better inform readers.

IN THIS COLUMN THE KANSAS CITY STAR PROVES THEY'RE 20-30 YEARS BEHIND THE TIMES OF LOCAL POLITICS!!!

They're talking about an old school club that was nice and good for a laugh but most voters know the endorsement game is really just a bad joke.

What's worse is that Helling is asking for replacements for the group when so many upstart organizations have been operating under his nose for years. Our Revolution KC basically chased Kevin Yoder out of office. More2 is rewriting municipal policy nearly every election cycle. And even old school groups like The Jackson County Democrats have revamped and stepped up their involvement.

Meanwhile, very much like the fading dead-tree world of print media, this column from a know-it-all newsie indulges in sentimentality whilst the local political world keeps moving ahead without him . . .

KC's mayoral race may go on without the Citizens Association | The Kansas City Star

The Citizens Association, which was among the preeminent political clubs in Kansas City, continues to fade from view. With primaries just eight weeks away, the club seems to be sitting out this year's mayor's race.

  2. I can understand why the C.A., or anyone else, might have trouble endorsing a candidate from the current contenders. An endorser would only be picking the least bad of the bunch,

  3. I know this is off topic but I have an enormous amount of hate for this man.

He has taken a fairly nice city and destroyed it, he refuses to work together with anyone who doesn't agree with him, he has NO business sense, and I think he is a thief and a habitual liar just like his daughter. The very sight of him, his wife and kids make me want to throw up. Plus he thinks he's real hip and everything with terms like " take a chill pill everyone" give me a break! The guy is a flipping idiot!

  7. The idea of a "non partisan" group of citizens meeting to screen candidates is laughable in today's environment. Even if you could find a few citizens who actually cared about the future of KCMO more than partisan politics who would fund them?

  8. They aren't "citizens of KCMO" @9:46 the so-called "Citizens Association has been a mouthpiece for the Kansas Real Estate Developers since the late 1960s.
