Don't Believe The New Kansas City Budget

Here's why:

12th & Oak could also budget for another Mars rover if they wanted. BUT as the year goes on funds are reallocated, switched and moved around. This budget hype is just a way to stop locals outraged that City Hall neglect killed their tires via 1400 potholes on local streets.

In other words . . .

MORE CASH IN THE KCMO BUDGET IS FAKE NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW HOW CITY HALL WORKS!!!

City Hall constantly borrows against funds deferred maintenance is not only a way of life for this town but also how the streets got so bad in the first place. Sadly, most media won't question local leaders on this fact but MAYBE it might come up in upcoming budget meetings via brave TKC readers.

KC proposed budget includes 70% hike for street maintenance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The city's proposed budget for 2019-2020 includes a major hike in spending on street preservation. The public works fund for resurfacing would increase from $10 million to $17 million under the plan, with the boost coming from last years renewal of the capital improvement sales tax.

  2. ^^^^ ROLF!!

For the geographically challenged (and our Kansas friends), that block contains the (closed) Jackson County Court Building across the street from City Hall.

  6. So we can count on that 7 million dollar increase in street repair money going to pay for the airport then, maybe give it to some developer for building more cheap ass apartments downtown? Maybe a down payment on one of seven parking garages we have to build for the developers who built apartments downtown? Or does this mean all that money will be for all brand new streets in the downtown loop?
These are important questions people, we need to know where it’s going....... right?

  7. ^^Wrong. You're on a need to know basis. Right now, you don't need to know.

  8. Now watch. The Paseo will be completely repaved again and new curb again and new plants and fountains. Just in time for the renaming. The rest of the roads in Brookside and Waldo will continue getting cheap asphalt patches. By the way this asphalt seems to be mixed with dirt.

  11. This is why I dont watch any local Kansas City news. They treat city hall with kid gloves. There is no real investigative journalism into how taxpayer money is spent or given away. Its like some unwritten rule in this town to ignore shady things.
