The Mayor of Kansas City is committed to focusing this town's attention toward matters of race and politics.
Whilst more locals are concerned with the rising rate of violence and crime, crumbling infrastructure and continued corporate giveaways . . . The Mayor refocuses his attention toward "systemic" issues.
Here's today's word:
"Here at the Mayor's Office, we're beginning the year with our third installment of the KC Race & Equity Initiative: Systems, Institutions & Communities, and we hope you'll join us to continue the conversation."
Take a look:

Join us as we explore ways to create change at an institutional level. Participants will dig into how institutions maintain systemic racism through controlling power and access. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from organizers and activists about local strategies to address and dismantle institutional racism.
You decide . . .
I would disagree that this is a conversation and it's certainly not a debate or discussion. There is only one sided being presented with very little room for any counterargument.
ReplyDeleteIf he was being honest. It should be advertised as nothing more than a series of lectures.
So lucky that our mayor is in touch with the community.
DeleteI would've thought that people hate listening to this kind of ranting unless they're the ones doing it.
There's only justice here is some of the developers who he has rewarded are forced to attend as part of the cost for those tax breaks.
DeleteSimple. Blacks commit the vast majority of KCMO murders.
ReplyDeleteI like his plan to ensure every black man gets a white wife like him and his son!
ReplyDeleteHard to believe this ambulance chaser made it to Mayor.
ReplyDeleteSorry Slick nice distraction though. Except you forgot "change we can believe in" as part of the pitch.

ReplyDeleteSO, THIS WILL BE A SYLVESTER JAMES CONFESSIONAL?
ReplyDeleteInstitutional Racism In KC?
Sylvester James, Jr., was elected Mayor of Kansas City Missouri (KCMO) in March 2011, with only 21 percent of the City's registered voters casting ballots. James was re-elected in 2015, with significantly fewer voters participating, against a largely unknown unfunded candidate. Despite the lack of opposition, James received extremely generous contributions from Burns and McDonnell.
A Kansas City Council committee recommended approval of more than $80 million in tax incentives for the expansion of Burns & McDonnell’s world headquarters complex at the northwest corner of Wornall and Bannister roads.
The Planning, Zoning and Economic Development Committee endorsed $41.9 million worth of incentives previously recommended by the Tax Increment Financing Commission of Kansas City. That amount, to be diverted over 23 years to reimburse eligible development costs, will include utility tax revenue and half of the earnings tax revenue generated by the expansion.
In addition, the committee endorsed Chapter 100 bond financing for the project that will allow the developers to receive a 25-year property tax abatement. At a rate of 100 percent abatement for 15 years, followed by 50 percent for 10 years, it will abate a total of $41.8 million in property tax revenue during the 25-year term.
..the Chapter 100 financing will allow the developers to also receive a sales tax exemption on building materials worth about $3 million.
The City Manager's office explained that the project is eligible for the sales tax exemption because the Chapter 100 financing will technically make the city the owner of the new buildings, which will be leased to the developers and subleased to Burns & McDonnell until the bonds are paid off.
The Chapter 100 financing calls for the city to issue up to $121.5 million in taxable revenue bonds, to be purchased by Burns & McDonnell, for the project.
Sylvester James attempted to award a no-bid multi-billion dollar public works project (largest in KCMO history) to lily-white Burns and McDonnell. The vast majority of their employees reside OUTSIDE KCMO, and top management lives in KS or Lee's Summit.
When a wealthy successful company, like Burns and McDonnell, asks for taxpayer assistance after first piling huge donations toward a Mayor without serious challengers, you know that both have seriously lost their way and are operating without a moral compass.
"Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from organizers and activists about local strategies to address and dismantle institutional racism." All of their strategies are going to be unconstitutional because they discriminate on the basis of race.
