HOW LONG WILL KCPD PLAY BLAME GAME WITH SHERIFF FORTÉ?!?!

The week Chief Richard Smith announced the result of a 'Crimes Against Children' Internal Investigation and noted that 17 members of the KCPD had been disciplined in the aftermath.

The statement from Chief Smith took full responsibility and offered a detailed public accounting of the episode along with important improvements that will impact the future.

Read it here for those who haven't already:

Conclusion of the investigation into the Crimes Against Children Section

However, the discussion in the aftermath of the announcement seemed to challenge the narrative.

Some denizens our our blog community didn't seem satisfied with the "discipline" and noted that nobody was actually "fired" and instead workers were simply shifted from one spot to the next or pushed into retirement.

Even more interestingly . . .

AMONG LOCAL PUNDITS AND VOTERS, THE BLAME FOR THE LACKLUSTER POLICING WAS SHIFTED TO SHERIFF FORTÉ AND CITED HIS LEGACY!!!

Certainly, the legacy of the former Chief deserves to be examined.

However . . .

THE BLAME GAME IS POINTLESS IF THERE'S NOT REAL ACCOUNTABILITY!!!

More to the point . . .

The "blame the old Chief" card is now used up. There are still a lot of issues confronting KCPD and blaming the old boss is no longer an acceptable answer if supporters of the organization want to be taken seriously.

Don't get it twisted, grousing about the old Chief and his EPIC PAYCHECKS is acceptable and should be part of his political record in the future. But using the Sheriff as a punching bag for every law enforcement crisis only serves to reinforce the status quo given that he's not up for reelection any time soon and most officials at the County are horrifically entrenched.

In fact, the focus of this post is only to provide better public info and to offer a hint to readers that so much of the local law enforcement blame game is merely a pastime for the permanently powerless who aren't interested in policy changes confronting KCPD like the local control fight but INSTEAD want to focus on petty drama that's unlikely to change anything.

  1. I see what you're saying here but calling out the former chief IS important in making sure that residents know his record when he runs for reelection.

Making it part of the public record.

Does it get the current chief off the hook?

    probably.

But chief smith isn't running for office. The Sheriff will be and that's why calling him out is somewhat worthwhile.

  2. Sheriff can usually do whatever he wants. Unlikely that anything is going to change at Jackson county.

  3. Why should we be surprised? Forte was and is the ultimate diversity hire. Low expectations that he still managed to screw up, colossal sense of entitlement, and childish, defensive responses to reasonable criticism.

And needs education about what razors can do to make him look a little less like a homeless man.

  4. Wait a minute. The KCPD Chief didn’t fall from the heavens to get his job. He was very much a part of the KCPD culture that contributed to laziness of the officers to not do their jobs with little oversight or consequence. This is no isolated mistake. This was an epic failure to protect victims and the Chief and all his minions past and present failed miserably. NEWS FLASH the other units at KCPD are just as bad and not doing their jobs!

  5. I would never vote for Forte. He is the snake oil salesman supreme to get both jobs.

  6. The blame game should last for about the same number of overtime hours that this affirmative action flunky charged the city for.

  7. As soon as his overtime pays off his Cayman Islands condo in Claire's building he is out of here.

  8. As long as it takes to get him out of here.

  9. ironically the KCPD is a bunch of scaredy cats when it comes to PR.

  10. Who was fired? Are the officers that were banned from testifying in Jackson county court still working or were they fired?

  11. why BLM named themselves after Bureau of Land Management is a mystery.

  12. KCPD and the 'justice system' can either address their bullshit like they expect those they prosecute to or keep pretending they got it all under control. In a christian world we model incarceration on sending ppl to hell without the wisdom of god.

  13. That department has had more issues than they can count. It’s time for a real conversation about local control. The bullshit like about being locally controlled is ridiculous. Mostly wealthy men and women that spend almost no time paying attention to the department. The kind of malfeasance displayed by the leaders of the KCPD needs to be dealt with. We need a local non-binding referendum to gauge the citizens desire for local control. We are the taxpayers, KCPD should be held responsible to those we elect.

  14. 6:11 you realize we are the only city in the country that doesn’t have control of its police dept. the state tells kcpd what to do, Ive run into officers on duty who tell me they don’t work for the city, just the state, they don’t have to do anything we want.

Besides, who wants people like sLIE and our famous idiots on the clowncil telling the police what to do.
