TKC QUESTION: SHOULD KANSAS CITY SAVE COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA CHURCH OR WELCOME NEW CONDO STRIP MALL?!?!

A half-baked scheme for more retail and expensive housing on the Plaza has sent some denizens of midtown atwitter.

Background . . .

Country Club Plaza Chuch opened in 1942 and is considered one of Kansas City's finest examples of Romanesque Revival architecture, but it is not listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has no protection from demolition.

Meanwhile, this town desperately needs an Orange Julius.

And so, we could pretend to be interested in the deets of the City Plan Commission or how Block Real Estate has basically declared war on any worthwhile building in this town and they're funding 5 of the leading mayoral candidates so their wrecking balls (ewwwwww) aren't going to be stopped any time soon.

Moreover . . .

Don't count on Historic Kansas City given that their ire has rarely proved effective and they're mostly just a group that cries bitter tears at every dramatic old school building demolition.

And so, better than any fake development propaganda, we put the question to our KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY . . .

SHOULD KANSAS CITY SAVE THE COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA CHURCH?!?!?

You decide . . .

  5. it's a shame that kc seeks to destroy everything about our city that makes it unique. You're right T, there may not be much hope for this building but what we're replacing it with is surely disposable.

  6. If you want to live in a small farming community, go live there. Cities progress, grow, and improve if their smart. Not all development is bad! Just make sure it’s a nice building, a good complement to it’s surroundings.

  7. Bill Mcmahon ......Kansas City and the progress shown by way of incompetent leadership has not been progress at all it's been junk that has been thrown up in every open space even ruining neighborhoods.

There's such a thing as historic preservation that is way more important to a city than a bunch of cheap contemporary buildings. You can see what it has done to the Plaza already it's now a cheap dying outdoor mall. Take a look at Troost it's still sitting there with no improvement at all and they keep throwing money into the same buildings that were redone back in 2009. PROGRESS????? NOT AT ALL!

But I agree with 8:40 on this one Kansas City has a problem with black people and will NEVER change no matter what you build!

  8. ^^^^^ idiots all.

    Save the church.

Most of these sh*birds live on Olathe anyway and they are so unimportant that they try to make their opinions heard on a blog because most of their relatives blocked them on facebook.

  10. Would like to see what they plan to build. Maybe it will be an improvement!

  11. This building is beautiful and only needs to be given a new life. Since Jackson County isn’t going to prosecute marijuana offenses any more, it could be used as a giant smoking parlor. Get some hot young sluts from Joco in there. Sell guns, heroin, fentanyl, and meth in the back room. Hire some Asians to operate a massage parlor there, with handjobs at the end of it.

  13. TKC's 12-12-18 9:12 AM post titled "TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! INSIDER WARNING: KANSAS CITY SPECULATIVE HOUSING BUBBLE READY TO BURST 2019!!!" says everything a person would need to know about more development.

  15. BREAKING!!!

Schulte, James, and Justus are in secret negotiations with the Cordish Company of Baltimore.

The plan is to grant blight designation to the church property, approve TIF, award earnings tax exemption, sales tax exemption on construction materials, 30-year property tax abatement, and create a CID, while the city of KCMO finances a glass/steel luxury apartment high-rise which they will lease to Cordish for $1.00 per year. The ground floor will have retail space for a Starbucks, day spa, Mercedes Benz dealership, and the Mayor's Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

  17. 9:09 it's those you like to call shitbirds who in the end support and spend the largest amounts of money in Kansas City. But what do you know, you don't have enough common sense to move out of a town that is taxing you to death as it goes tits up.

  21. Save the church.

Why can't all these retail stores that want to go into "business" in this new strip mall just move into the numerous "Out of Business" locations all around the Plaza?

  22. Bill Mcmahon states, "Cities progress, grow, and improve if their smart."

That may be true but development and improvement should not occur ahead of maintaining infrastructure, public safety, accredited education system, good responsible government, and good reliable city services like trash pickup, water and sewer.

  23. Our readiness to tear down our history and put up plastic boxes is what has brought our Fair City more Tourists each year that those places that keep heir old crap, like Paris, London, Washington, Rome and poorly led shitholes like that.

We have far too many buildings that were built before 2011 as it is!
    Progress, Progress, that's our Plan!
If Sly can't do it, Quint or Jolie Can!
