TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY HOUSING TRUST FUND IS A SCAM CRAFTED BY DESPERATE COUNCIL CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR MAYOR!!!

After Kansas City council members pushed through more subsidy for corporate building downtown and cash for office space biz parking, they quickly pivoted to far more proletarian conversations.

A measure advanced by the housing committee establishes a $75 million Kansas City Housing Trust Fund to encourage the construction or rehabilitation of rental housing for low-income residents.

The only problem. There's no funding source, no organizational structure, no plan . . . Just a nice thought that needs $75-MILLION worth of taxpayer cash.

Council dude Quinton Lucas says it's "a very big deal."

It's not.

More to the point . . .

THE KANSAS CITY CONVERSATION ABOUT AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS NOTHING MORE THAN A RUSE FOR COUNCIL TO ESPOUSE SILLY TALKING POINTS!!!

The best line goes to Council lady Canady . . .

During discussion she referenced a conversation that happened earlier Wednesday, about the city’s "obligation" to fund a parking garage for a planned office tower downtown.

“We’re funding housing for cars and not people,” Canady said.

That's actually correct but notice that the plans for catering to the driving biz class are a lot more detailed than this scheme mostly crafted to win hearts, minds and votes.

Developing . . .

  2. $75 million is a lot of money for KC to pay. Will it come out of the general fund as well or is this from all of that revenue the streetcar is bringing forward?

  3. Whoever the next mayor is will put on a unicorn suit, channel Sly then wave a confetti spewing wand and the money will magically appear.

  4. I would figure Canady would be about funding for cars, namely paying for your fucking tags you fat slob!

  5. Raise taxes on the people who are already providing decent housing for low income. Then after you force them to sell dump the property to some developer.

  7. I thought we were funding housing already? We’re funding all those thousands of apts downtown aren’t we? Not my fault the city gave away hundreds of millions of dollars and now they want us to fund poor peoples housing too, kiss my ass, enough is enough

  8. Nobody wants to talk about the facts.
    Imagine a pyramid.
Cut off the top third--the rich developers--because they only build things like pricy apartments in the Crossroads or River Market when the council abates their property taxes and kicks back other moneys to pay for the parking of their Lexi (plural of Lexus!) etc. for 20 years.

So this $75 million will come ONLY from the middle of the pyramid: from the middle class. they never are granted abatements. They've got a broke dick two mile trolley to nowhere, except in the rain and snow. Still waitin' on those sidewalks. Well, they did get a shelter for their runaway pets.

And now the bottom of this pyramid--they get the money from the middle class taxpayers. Until the top third, the developers can't stand it another minute and must gentrify, seizing more land.

    Ho ho ho's.

  9. We can’t even get the stripes painted on the streets let alone get the streets fixed and they want us to pay for as Tracy says, the bottom of the pyramid that expects everybody else to pay their way. NO. MORE.
