Teen tased by Independence police awarded $6.5M by jury

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - An Independence, Missouri teenager tased by Independence police in 2014 was awarded nearly $6.5 million in damages by a federal court jury. Bryce Masters, then 17, was tased by officer Timothy Runnels during a traffic stop in September 2014. The incident was recorded on body camera video that was made public.

  8. I knew he was brain damaged as 10:22 says but I'd forgotten how bad so I searched past articles. The Intercept_ had a very long article and included the full 20 minute dash cam footage. Yes, the kid was being a mouthy punk but Runnels didn't taser him protect himself or prevent him from getting away. He said, "I told you." He punished him for being noncompliant and then drags his limp body off to the side and drops his face on the pavement breaking several teeth and dislocating his jaw. Then he accused the kid of faking it boasting, "I've been tased a dozen times and it's not like this."

    Anyhoo, kid's going to need that money for future living. Not sure what he'll be able to do to make a living.
