KCPD COMPLAIN: PHONE SPOOF FAKERS STILL TARGETING ELDERLY!!!

Another tweet from authorities today warns of callers pretending to be KCPD and then demanding money.

Here's the word . . .

"The scambags are spoofing our department's main admin # again (234-5000) today," KCPD wrote on Twitter. "They're calling people & telling them their grandchildren are in trouble & to send money. Our number shows up on caller ID. Seems to be targeting elderly folks in the southern U.S. today."

More info from KMBC: Robocallers use neighbor spoofing, which displays a phone number of their choosing on your caller ID, to increase the likelihood that you will answer the call. Two weeks ago, scammers were spoofing KCPD's number asking for money to bail out a family member.
