CALL AND RESPONSE: KANSAS CITY NEW AIRPORT STALLED AND STILL NEED $48-MILLION WORTH OF CITY HALL CASH!!!

Today's airport committee meeting should be fun if only because we'll hear more deets about the how the Aviation Dept. can't really afford to float the new airport and City Hall borrowing (at taxpayer expense) is an inevitability.

Even better . . .

HERE'S A FUN Q&A FACT CHECK COMPILED BY A FEW OF OUR READERS AND REASSEMBLED INTO SOME QUICK POINTS ABOUT THIS NEW AIRPORT!!!

Checkit:

-All of the airlines are okay with rising costs, except two low-fare carriers? Oh, yeah, the reality is that at least three more airlines have their own consultants looking at costs.

-All of this is about 20 million dollar baggage system? Anybody believe that?

-The mayor claims it's a "mathematical issue" with the airlines who won't sign on to the use and lease term sheet. They don't like the rising price of the airport? Anybody ask the mayor what he means by "mathematical issue"?

-All of the airport, builder and city hall flaks claim this project is right on schedule. That's not accurate. The 6 week wait on the environmental assessment alone constitutes a delay and that's not the only problem on the horizon.

-Edgemoor claims they are on course to begin demolition of Terminal A next month. But so far there has been VERY LITTLE OPEN LOCAL BIDDING ON THAT EFFORT. Furthermore, we haven't seen any equipment staged at the airport.

Any word from the city about the Programmatic Agreement the FAA gave the city; the PA that was supposed to be signed this week?

Bizarre. Also, let's not forget the proponents of the new airport are REQUIRED to hold a certain number of public meetings. If so, they better to do it in a town where the locals are less likely to ask embarrassing questions.

Developing . . .

The airport is a mess. It's time for Burns & Mac to take over. Once Jolie Justus is out of office that won't be a problem any more.

    2. They showed those new models. Very fun, they look like they were snap lock Hobby Lobby quality. The designs we've seen are the biggest indication this thing is going nowhere.

  2. We can’t get the stripes painted on the streets, nobody knows where the damn lanes are, this effing town sucks so what makes anybody think they can get a new airport built?

  3. Water line repairs that need to be redone three times, etc, etc. Hell you can rest easy with this KCMO politcal crew in charge folks!

  4. The proposed airport is right on schedule and progressing according to plans.

Edgemoor will pull out of the deal which is what Slie wants. then Burns and Mac, the great local white knight, will swoop in and save the proposed new airport and Slie will reward them by lining their pockets with Christmas cash.

The jokers on Oak will not provide answers to the locals questions.

  5. I see generations of future political scientists studying this project as how NOT to do things in the public arena.

  6. TOP PHOTO -- IN-FLIGHT THEATRE

Just as Ray Kowalik (Burns and McDonnell CEO) seemingly watched the multi-billion dollar project take flight without him, Jolie Justus phoned in a bomb threat to halt construction!!!

  7. Let’s ask the nagging Councilmember Terrsa Loar what to do! She’s always on the right side of the issues and can always deliver 6 other votes of her council colleagues! -LMAO!!!

  9. That would be great if people at the downtown airport put together something to get the budget airlines to come there

  10. gawwdd forbids the budget airlines or any other airplane use terminal A or rough it out over at Terminal A.
increased flight traffic near downtown is a great idea.

  11. I feel fairly certain there is a LOT going on behind the scenes as far as actual demo and construction plans likely being under review by the City. It would not surprise me to see equipment dropped all of a sudden right before the onset of work. An unfortunate travesty overall. going bankrupt to build our very own Spruce Goose.
