Kansas City's Quest For a Real Housing Policy

This summer, the Kansas City, Mo., City Council worked out an agreement with a developer proposing to build a luxury residential tower downtown. To secure tax credits to build it, the developer would add 100 affordable units in another downtown building it owns. Still, there was a problem: the city had no definition for affordable housing.

  1. Affordable housing should be anything a negro can afford without government assistance and not paid for with proceeds from illegal drug deals or stealing.

  3. The author clearly loves Quinton Lucas, and while she is quick to point out that Eric Greitens resigned over sexual misconduct issues, not a word about her the DUI her dear Quinton Lucas recently was charged with. Obvious bias. The Greitens scandal didn't need to be mentioned. It was relevant at all, but typical of a "thoughtful" non-local author from the Bronx. She should stick to writing about her own city's problems.

KC development has thrived on tax breaks and developer promises for years. As a great Chief Justice once said about pornography (paraphrasing), "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it." I think Kansas City knows what affordable housing means. If they allow someone with new cars, gold chains, and other trappings of disposable income to live in housing meant for those who can't afford housing, then that's wrong and should be investigated. As a construction project manager, I have seen the finest dressed get into the finest, cleanest cars at affordable housing projects all over the country. Something is wrong with our society when a social program meant to help those who can't afford to put a roof over their head actually allows the recipients of that social welfare to have finer things and live better than the hard-working taxpayers who provide the benefit.

  5. Lets talk about idiots like Emily Numnuts. she has no business blogging about crap she knows nothing about. I read some of her blogs and she calls the ILLEGALS INVADING OUR COUNTRY Humanitarian crisis disguised as war. Well that's just what it is, a war and an invasion on this country, if she would look into the facts as the boarder patrol interviewed some of these people she would see why they are coming into our country and it's not because of asylum from their country.

Her comment on Eric Grietiens was unnecessary, and she is one who out of ignorance has chosen to point a finger and scream guilty until proven innocent. Eric Grietiens affair was more of a blackmail job for other issues, not the sexual end of it alone!
