Newspaper Discovers College Internships

Sorry to waste space on this one but it might be one of the most useless instances of "journalism" our local paper has offered which reports the complaints of students that not even their parents bother to really listen . . . Read more if you dare:

UMKC professor used students as servants for decades | The Kansas City Star

Kamesh Kuchimanchi traveled halfway across the globe to earn his Ph.D. alongside one of the University of Missouri-Kansas City's top researchers. Ashim Mitra's sterling reputation as a scientist wasn't the lone draw. Like Kuchimanchi, the professor was from India, and that was a comfort. Their common bond, Kuchimanchi hoped, would make America feel more like home.

  7. The whole story is summed up in one fact. Mitra brought in huge Federal Grants, therefore he was and still is, untouchable.

This is just "deja vu", since the same thing happened at UMKC several years ago, when a Dean of the School of Biosciences got carried away by arrogance and almost cost the Medical School its licensure. He too brought in large amounts of Grants, and he too was untouchable.

BRING IN THE BUCKS, REMAIN UNTOUCHED!

  8. Foreign students should be made aware of the rules of conduct when they apply to study under a prestigious professor. They are there to kiss ass, cut grass, and pass the class. Current students should tell the newbies how things work so there are no surprises.
