Heeding objections from Mayor Sly James and the Kansas City Park Board, City Councilman Scott Taylor on Thursday stripped his East Side economic development proposal of a provision to rename The Paseo for Dr. Martin Luther King.
The Paseo measure was an unexpected, last-minute amendment to Taylor’s “Revive the East Side” plan . . . The addition was made last week by City Councilman Quinton Lucas . . .
The economic package was on the council’s agenda for final passage Thursday, but was held for two weeks at Taylor’s request.

People wanted this, people have protested for it. There are very few voices that want to keep it as the paseo. Mayor Sly james did another disservice to the community today.

DeleteEventually, it will happen. Just a matter of timing when nobody is looking and making sure that it will be too late to object. I imagine they'll do it the same way they did with the hotel. As a last FU to the voters before they leave office.

ReplyDeleteDoes his “eastside revival plan” include the real eastside, you know, the one that goes all the way independence, that east side? Because the real eastside has been getting ripped off to pay for the central core or “the fake eastside” where the fat fake revs are. We are very tired of being lumped in with the murderous blacks that live in the central core.

ReplyDeleteAll areas of the City are being neglected by the Council in favor of the central core. This is an government which is broken. How about passing a petition which dictates spending to be distributed fairly across all areas of the City???

The only "momentum" in KCMO is how stupid these people an be.
If they don't rename it MLK, how will tourists know what area to avoid?

ReplyDeleteMLK was nothing more than a public speaker who got his fellow negroes wound up by carrying on in that way that only a negro minister can (Carwash Cleaver, for example). Even Democratic Jackie Kennedy talked about what a kook he was in the tapes of her that were released a few years ago. I’d rather see a street named after Mammy from Gone With the Wind. She was 10 times the person MLK could have ever hoped to be.
