After 25 years a Kansas City working-class tradition shuts down.
Tanner's Waldo is closing at the end of the weekend and tonight is the big blowout party and pretty much last call for the Saturday regulars & irregulars alike.
What makes this night so special???
The end of this neighborhood pub offers us a glimpse at the future: Millennials and the NEXTGEN are no longer sentimentally attached to neighborhood hangouts like the Waldo Tanner's.
Online hookups, social media swarms and dating app flirting provide tech savvy youngsters and creepy middle-aged online denizens more immediate gratification than the old school bar scene.
As with all things, expediency is at the root of this local game changer.
Buying booze and bad wings is no longer a prerequisite to exchange fluids with a stranger. Apps also work more efficiently when matching people up on looks & and various lies people tell to one another when trying to align naughty bits.
Sadly, the shut down of this Kansas City public house offers another glimpse of locals retreating from the real world in order to congregate within neatly collected digital tribes
And so, we dedicate tonight's playlist to the memory of Waldo Tanner's and their Kansas City clientele.
