KANSAS CITY MIDWEEK REQUEST: 18TH & VINE EXPLAINS WHY THEY NEED 10 MILLION BUCKS (MORE) FROM CITY HALL!!!

An urban core tour today offers some hype and a stroll along a historic path in need of even more help after $100-million has already been flushed down the drain.

Take a look . . .

18th & VineKC: Please join us for a news conference for the $27.6 Million 18th & Vine Improvements Plan 2018 Update and Year-in-Review at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10th at the Outdoor Amphitheater at 17th & Vine behind the American Jazz Museum. #18VINEKC #KCMO

We hear Council dude Jermaine Reed will be front and center leading the argument for more cash.

Whilst the mayoral contender may be "persuasive" when it comes to the City Staff that he's constantly bullying . . . More money for this embattled district that mostly served as a shooting gallery during the Summer is a tough sell.

You decide . . .

  1. Not another dime until there is an audit and an INDEPENDENT management team that answers to an appointed board.

    2. Sounds like a fun time. Do we at least get a few hundred for showing up and offering some support? If not, no thanks.

  2. NE = Never Enough. After they waste the $10 million, they'll need millions more.

  3. No thanks. I get my jazz from successful clubs that turn a profit.

  5. Way too violent at the historic 18th Vine area. Be warned.

  6. Don't worry, Schulte will "find" a few extra million from some other city budget item to transfer over to the 18th/Vine money pit....just don't make him go over there again and speak.

    Here's an idea!

Encourage Schulte, James, and Justus to secretly negotiate the sale of the 18th/Vine District to Burns and McDonnell. If the city's put in $100M over the years, that should be the selling price.

  7. Taxpayers need not worry. This is a done deal and you will be paying more taxes to the grifters at the trough.

  8. Let’s be clear about one thing....nobody really cares about jazz anymore. Secondly, people get shot in that area. It’s not safe. We all know what’s going on here. It’s a siphoning for a select few, and it’s polished as a feel good job. Can’t turn down the money because that would be racist!

Nobody wakes up in the morning thinking.....man, I need some jazz in my life. Well, ok maybe some hipsters do but cmon.

  10. This is all about creating a false economy. Hire minority mandated sub-contractors which I am fine with but at the end of the day, there is no accountability for price and job performance.
Reed's sole purpose if to get City money spent in his district period. All other areas of the City can go to Hell.
Then Reed travels to City conferences on to discuss the Jazz Museum and the 18th and Vine projects.
Reed is running a con on the city and the other Council Members are letting him get away with this. POLITICAL MACHINE.

  11. Better use of $10M? Set it on fire and watch it burn. At least it would be entertaining.

  13. Shut down all travel expenses and contract awards in the 3rd District until a State auditor can come in and review this.

  14. Every penny the third district gets is spent in the central core, the real eastside all the way to independence and lees summit get nothing, just takes our money and blows it on lost causes, don’t forget, he’s trying to give wealthy black developers a shit load of money for the old haunted house on forest, which is not in the jazz district

  15. Just keep giving the money away

Democrats started this money pit to sucking in huge amounts of money and they live in a swamp at 12th and Oak.

Hey Citizens of Kansas City! See that black hole over there about 18th & Vine? We need to fill up that hole with money. Keep shoveling it in! I promise it will never fill up but keep the money coming!

  19. Cheepto needs to be required to refund all of the money she sucked out of the Jazz district funding.

  20. Radish finds it almost impossible to actually listen to jazz. Pretending to like jazz was something I gave up on after turning 40, along with pretending to like soccer.

Jazz is actually great stuff to listen to!

Unfortunately the last innovative jazz was written and recorded in the early 1970s, and everything composed or played since then is an imitation, some good, some mediocre, some bad, and some at 18th & Vine, of the far, far, better original.
