This week's example: The Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners rescinded an award it had given to a pair of officers involved in the killing of Ryan Stokes as he was leaving the Power & Light District five years ago.
Now . . .
The board had their say.
Activists have been challenging the narrative from authorities since day one.

In the aftermath of the decision our sources said that the move was a bit of "a slap in the face and dredging up an old issue."
Here's the word that offers even more insight:
"The officers were contacted and willingly let the awards go, but no one is happy about it. At the end of the day, we want community peace and this has been a 5 year struggle. It’s a sad story all the way around."
This is important because COMMUNITY OUTREACH IN KANSAS CITY GOES BOTH WAYS. It's not only important for police to know how residents feel but it's also equally vital for the neighborhoods to know where cops are coming from . . . Hopefully, this post provides a glimpse of police worker sentiment that media won't neglect next time around.

the decision from the board seems political more than anything else. You can certainly tell it's an election year by what we're seeing out of the board, council and even some of the judges.

ReplyDeleteThe irony of Forte becoming Sheriff is that this event and many more happened under Forte. Forte approved the award. Forte covered up so many issues. Now, the same people screaming for justice are those that supported him for Sheriff. Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it.
