TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! SUMMERTIME BLUES: MERRIAM, KANSAS TAXPAYER PUSH BACK AGAINST SELLING PUBLIC POOL AND BUILDING PRICEY INDOOR FACILITY!!!

Better than so many JoCo country club bloggers who can't be bothered to really understand taxpayer outrage against local government waste, our blog community offers a peek EXCLUSIVE WORD FROM JOCO TAX FIGHTERS ON HORRIFIC WASTE THREATENING A LOCAL BEDROOM COMMUNITY . . .

Here's a summary of the sitch and a BRILLIANT OPEN LETTER to politicos calling out the effort that could sink the suburban city into debt . . .

AWESOME TKC READER In Merriam, Kansas STRONGLY OBJECTS To Sale of City Assets Without City Approval

Dear Mr. Mayor,

After attending city council meeting for the past three year, I have a very good understanding of the Merriam City process and residents are more and more becoming aware of the failures of that process. Look around Mr. Mayor, the culture of the city council is changing. Some council members are now listening to their constituents. That is how the failed process is going to change. You can join the evolution or stay behind. What worked in the days of Irene French and MOMAW is no longer going to work today.

This situation is entirely different than selling police cars and fire trucks. A large part of this community feels that Merriam City Government failed to deliver what was promised when they voted for the community center. They told you so in their public statements and said they would have voted no had they known how the design would end up.

In case you haven't noticed, resident pressure is building to reconsider the community center designs presented by staff. It is entirely possible that on September 24, the city council will send the plan back to be reconsidered by committees which had no say in the original design process.

Should it be decided to repair the current pool for around $800,000 and build an indoor facility nearby, selling city assets for pennies on the dollar and buying them back at full price would be considered mismanagement.

There is no good reason to sell those assets until the city council makes their decision on September 24.
