Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old African American from Miami Gardens, Florida, who was fatally shot in Sanford, Florida by George Zimmerman and a nationwide controversy ensued after the tragic incident.
Today . . . A local bartender told his followers that a Westport Security guard allegedly ordered a "Travon Martini." The man says it has one shot of Vodka and watermelon juice because "it only takes one shot to take him down."

41 Action News has learned the man was formerly a member of the Olathe Police Department but he hasn't worked there since 2016.
The viral Facebook post has resulted in the firing of the security officer. At the time, he was working for Chelsea Brown International doing security around Westport. In a statement to KCTV5, Chelsea Brown said it terminated employment with the man.
The only communication we've heard from the officer is that he claims the Facebook post was "extremely embellished." He declined to provide further details.
Nevertheless . . .
DESPITE ACTION AGAINST THE SECURITY GUARD. WESTPORT OFFICIALS HAVE ENDURED THREATS OF VIOLENCE THROUGHOUT THE DAY!!!
Social media updates about the firing aren't resonating as quickly as the initial reaction to the alleged hate crime joke. There are a lot of people angry about the incident and what they claim is an "overall climate of hate" in Westport directed against the increasing number of African-American patrons. Check the initial FB post to confirm some of these attitudes and negative perceptions against Westport security.
A few examples of local antipathy . . .
"I love the way so many people came together to completely annihilate this guy and put his head on a spike."
"His termination isn't enough. Westport Security needs to answer why nothing was done for several days until this hit social media. The bartender had to put his life on the line to publicly call out this gun-wielding racist psycho because he was denied justice. The Westport Association was given privatized streets. To whom do they answer?
"When I try to tell people that racism is systemic, this is what I mean. I don't trust this man to make judgement calls if he is in charge of keeping the area safe."

Westport promised better security by April but hasn't come through with metal detectors and enforcement of the "street vacation" in the meantime, there have been a spate of shootings inside and around the entertainment district that still struggles to come to grips with threats to safety after within the boundaries of the historic midtown location.

Westport is somewhat lucky here. The majority of their problems and the violence is around 3 am in the morning. That's not prime time for social justice warriors who want to be seen by TV cameras. And drunken fights in that are constant on Mill Street & Westport don't count as protest.

The degree of political correctness in this country is ridiculous. If every employee, business, politician, entertainer, etc. is fired or put out of business for something that offends some minority person or group, the economy is going to implode.

ReplyDeleteTrayvon Martin was a thug in training. Zimmerman was a fool to let himself be ambushed by Martin, but Martin was also a fool to try to beat up an armed man. He should have known that his own death was a possibility. Martin is a bit more sympathetic figure than Michael Brown, but not by much.
