TKC SUNDAY SPECIAL!!! KANSAS CITY NEW AIRPORT THREATENED BY RESUMED OPPOSITION AMID CONSTRUCTION DELAYS, BROKEN PROMISES & COST OVERRUNS!!!

Some of the most strident tax fighters in Kansas City argue that City Hall betrayal of promises on the new airport have essentially nullified a recent vote.

To wit . . .

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! BEHIND THE SCENES ANOTHER ROUND OF AIRPORT DEBATE AWAITS KANSAS CITY AMID CONSTRUCTION DELAY AND BUILDING PROBLEM THAT HAVE ARGUABLY VIOLATED THE TERMS OF THE MOST RECENT ELECTION ACCORDING TO CRITICS!!!

Even worse, don't imagine these comments are just among neighborhood activists and petitioners. The reality of the airport debate is daunting and some insiders note there are no less than three multi-national firms involved in the bidding who have already expressed their concern about a haphazard process which has been corrupted from the outset.

Here's the word from insiders and just one facet of the growing debate as this story continues to develop . . .

"It just makes me SICK to see how the Mayor's office and the Aviation Department are continuing to fleece our coffers without any accountability and could literally bankrupt our airport unless someone stops this fraud. If Kansas City thinks the airlines will not tuck their tail and run if cost get too high they are sadly mistaken.

"The so-called vote last year was a vote on a "COMPLETE LIE" put forth on the ballot. Now the city continues to say they have the vote to move forward and build a new terminal. Citizens should demand a recall of the vote because the ballot was a complete misrepresentation (hustle or swindle) of what folks thought they were voting on. This is no different than if they put forth a ballot to build/expand a new bridge across the Missouri River at a projected cost only to find out nothing presented was remotely true and now the city has the authority to build anything they desire at a cost that god only know what it will be . . . Maybe even not a bridge at all!!

"The City of Kansas City should be audited on this process. For the Aviation Dept. to NOT know that the FAA would require them to do an environmental assessment first is absolutely irresponsible. The current KCMO Aviation administration knows nothing about an airport and therefore is unable to effectively administer a project it doesn't really understand . . ."

You decide . . .

  1. Of course it's a scam, what else did you expect?

That's the way these kind of votes have always been conducted. Not different than contracts for the highways back in the 30s & 40s.

    1. Might be a little early for this but it should be on the table. However, I would argue that the I'd prefer a delay rather than see the old airport torn down without a good idea about what comes next.

    2. And again, if you ask one of the 9 mayoral candidates what they're going to do about it all that you'll get is a bunch of fake answers about renewing momentum with no real plan to keep this thing from becoming one of the worst disasters in KC's history.

  3. This should be a surprise to no one. This city administration is one of the most corrupt the city has ever had. Totally agree with @8:31 about the responses from mayoral candidates.
Nobody has a clue about what is going on and the taxpayers are getting fleeced.
Even when the administration is called out about the scams they dance around the topic.

  4. I'll vote for the first mayoral candidate that wants to oust Cordish the fuck outa here, and wants to remodel the OLD airport, wants the city police force to control the hood rats that are destroying the Plaza and Westport, and doesn't wear a bow tie and a clown suit

  8. Ever notice how Chris Hernandez only fights for the toy train? What’s that tell you, especially since he knows the toy train is a scam so the airport must be so bad he wouldn’t touch that with a ten foot pole. We have been run into the ground financially with both black mayors who spend money like it grows on trees, bananas grow on trees but not money.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Toy train is gonna cost over 400 million dollars for 5.9 miles and the airport is gonna cost over 1.5 billion.

The mysterious number is what mayor slick has spent on downtown, that’s gotta be over a billion dollars there.

Nearly 3 billion will be spent on less than 10 square miles of a 320 square mile city and it clearly shows.

This city is becoming a third world country, it’s completely falling apart, crime and murder is rampant and mayor slick and the council only care about theree things.

  10. all of this and the mayor wants a tax increase for kids that even walk yet or talk

    Hell, I want that too!

  17. KCI you say? Just the mention of it makes me think of Council member Irrelevant Teresa Loar. She spent months/years telling anyone who would listen that KCI needed to simply be renovated. She brought in KC Crawford Architects with a half plan to “renovate the terminals to their bones” completely ignoring the horse shoe shaped terminals were outdated and tremendously difficult to secure in a post 9/11 world. She touted her “years of experience serving on every airport board around.” She told anyone who would listen that the public would vote down a single terminal design. She preached it, she just ran her mouth about it. She sat and stewed about it. Then the public voted and 70% were FOR a new single terminal. She lost control of the city’s largest asset that was in HER DISTRICT. Teresa Loar was on the wrong side of the issue. After embarrassing herself, Crawford Architects, her district constituents and colleagues, she certainly has had time to reflect and should be able to provide great perspective on the delay. Just give her call, she would probably be happy to talk, snipe and bitch. That is if she is still not hung over from last nights bottle of wine. The old broad likes her wine. She is the most ineffective and irrelevant council member ever elected in KCMO. “Irrelevant Teresa Loar.”

  18. Since when are lies, cost overruns, opposition from the public, and construction delays any reasons to question a "project" of KCMO government.
The general fund, adding new taxes, and bonding authority are bottomless pits and the consultants, engineering firms, construction unions, bond attorneys, and all the rest of the "development" gang can always be counted on to contribute generously to the electeds who see things their way.
One or two billion dollars for the airport?
Tens of millions moved around in the budget for streetcars?
    $100/month water bills?
New sales taxes for reading programs and daycare?
No problem unless you actually live or own a small business in KCMO.
And, as the Jason Pander candidacy demonstrates so clearly, the most important question is "What are you going to run for next?".

  19. 12:21 is right! KC is at its cultural core a cowtown because of carpetbaggers like Kander and stupid people like the current council who can't control the city manager. And I do blame the current council. 7 attorneys trained in critical thinking and they can't see whats going on and how the city manager screws everyone of them and screws the citizen tax payer. Two council members are of particular problem. Dan Fowler who thinks the city manager is doing a splendid job and Kevin McManus who has't taken a strong stand on anything. Had these two bozo's thoughtfully aligned themselves with other council members there might have been a 7 or 9 vote majority to correct the $1 Billion in Cerner subsidies, $35 million in taxpayer cash HANDED to the convention hotel developer and upwards of $2 Billion of single-terminal stupidity underway. Had they thought like serious minded community stewards, KC would be in the era of a new city manager. I am ashamed of my city council.

  20. To save time and money the existing airport should be updated which will be much cheaper than a new one. If Slie stomps his feet and demands a single terminal then close the existing airport and move everything back to the single airport downtown. In the end Slie wants everything, including new ball parks, in his downtown utopia provided it does not give the downtown a black eye.

    ReplyDelete
  21. will there have to be more votes on bond issuance for the airport?

    ReplyDelete
  22. All they ever had to do was put tsa at one end and everybody would have to pass through there, then the rest of the building would be open to wander around in for the restrooms, food courts and bar. This is too simple for the idiots at city hall to figure out, once someone started bribing the mayor and city. Council it was whatever you boys want our taxpayers will pay for it, we don’t care because we don’t live or own anything here.

Jesus man, it’s not like they have more than a hundred people show up at once to get on a plane, it’s probably a hundred people a day.

    @ 12:17 go take a Flying Leap!
Teresa Loar is one of the few, if not the only Council Member that Sly does not haul around by their collar!

I understand that her resistance to the Crap going on at City Hall and the disgraceful fraud being committed at KCI displeases you denizens at 12th & Oak, but quit hiding under the shield of anonymous postings Go4KC (Chris)and be man (chuckle) enough to slander Sly's opponent openly!

In other words, take your choice stand up or shut up!

  26. Lefou Delaplate is anonymous

  27. Not sure about Lefou, but according to Urban Dictionary: “... "loar" is a word used to call out someone who is believed to be lying or deceiving...” What an appropriate name for a politician named Teresa!! All this time I thought “Loar” was Irish for “wino”.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That’s funny right there!

    ReplyDelete
  29. If you go to YouTube and search for "The KCI Affair" you will find the KCPT documentary on the KCI Fiasco.

It points out the role Councilwoman Loar has consistently taken in opposition to the "destroy, don't remodel" credo at City Hall.

Watch it and you will get a feeling why these desperate attacks on Ms. Loar from City Hall's Trolls ar4 being posted so often.

I don't know Ms. Loar, and while I'm a Northlander, I'm not in her District, but I can recognize the stench of desperation spreading from the "Joke On Oak" now that their pet project is falling apart on them. Attack, Trolls! Attack, attack, attack, it's all you have left!

  30. Councilman Scott Wagner had serious concerns about this agreement and the costs associated with doing business with a group who didn't have all their plans together and were tanking the current Seattle-Tacoma airport with cost overruns and "unseen" delays. Keep in mind, he was one of the few with balls enough to speak up and vote No on the MOU. It cost him a lot, as the Star reported at the time. True Northlanders know who is on their side.
