THE PITCH CELEBRATES NEW ROLE AS KANSAS CITY HIPSTER SHOPPER!!!

Here's just a bit of Kansas City journalism red meat that proves reveals the fading fortunes of dead-tree publications.

To wit . . .

TKC TOLD YOU SO: THE PITCH NOW PUBLISHES ONLY A FEW PRECIOUS NEWS ITEMS AND MOSTLY SERVES AS LOCAL HIPSTER PARTY PROMO!!!

Just as we predicted, The Pitch was forced to transform into a shopper/pennysaver publication in order to survive.

They're really not interested in anything happening at City Hall which is a huge departure from their roots. Most of their content comes straight from Democratic Party consultants from either Missouri or Kansas. And, strangely, they an even smaller percentage of minority reporters than The Star #PitchSoWhite - Which I thought was impossible . . . AND they had to sell off their web address which they held for nearly two decades.

Almost a year into it . . . The Pitch serves a vital function for it's last remaining advertisers and just about nobody else.

We look forward to their response this evening . . .

And Here's The Pitch...

Deets:

Amid newspapers’ struggles with ad sales and circulation, Stephanie and Adam Carey purchased Kansas City’s alternative publication The Pitch late last year. They called it a longtime dream, and pledged an increased local focus.

They look at the venture, their vision, and the future of the now-monthly magazine in a discussion joined by The Pitch’s editor, David Hudnall. Hudnall has acknowledged “working with pretty limited resources,” but vowed to “continue to do all the same stuff we have always done: investigative stories, arts coverage, food reviews, etc.”

The transition puts the publication back in local hands; the new owners are respective graduates of Blue Valley Northwest and Shawnee Mission Northwest high schools. Stephanie Carey serves as publisher, husband Adam as chief operating officer.
