The latest July 2018 weekend in Kansas City was exceptionally brutal and the level of local killing is carrying over into the work week.
A quick round-up for Monday morning . . .
There were two murders, a dangerous carjacking chase that ended in a downtown crash, half a dozen cars lit ablaze, a shootout with police wherein a suspect injured three detectives and the ensuing deadly standoff which transformed an east side neighborhood into a battlefield.

Notice that that politicos are mostly talking byzantine ethics rules, luxury development and housing whilst chaos erupts on local streets.

This is actually easier than it sounds. Remember last election there was a gentleman's agreement to politely ignore any challenge to the incumbent mayor and some homeless guy proved to be the only general election opposition.

Overall it's steady with recent trends and now seems to be creeping upward which is typical. August is always one of the worst months for local killing as well.

ReplyDeleteIf this statement has any truth to it then the question is why aren't the residents of the communities stepping forward to help police?
Instead all you hear from these residents are statements like, they were a good person, I just lost my baby, why did he have to be shot, he was starting to turn his life around, he would not do that, why didn't they shoot him in the leg, and the list can go on forever.
New York City had a lot of luck with stop and frisk. That probably wouldn't fly here but I think a stop and search of suspicious cars would help prevent a lot of crime before it started. Especially when a driver matches a suspect description and is pulled over acting shady. You could also generate good will when police let a lot of drivers go.
