KANSAS CITY RIVER MARKET PARKING CRISIS: CITY HALL CRACKDOWN FAIL!!!

Here's a glimpse at 12th & Oak making a bad situation even worse in a money grab chasing away customers and prohibiting growth:

Paid parking debuted in City Market lots four months ago. Here's how it's working

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - More than four months have passed since the City Market began charging drivers who park in the city-owned surface lots on weekdays, and in that time, a private parking company has issued more than 800 citations for non-compliance.

  1. Unless it is a planned event I am attending I don't pay to park. Pay parking for a farmers market ? Just doesn't seem right.

  2. You should see Saturday’s there. It’s nuts. It’s about to get worse with the new apartment complex addition being built right now. These idiots have no idea how close they live to a large mentally ill camp.

  3. This is the fault of Sly James. Instead of building parking to go with his growing Kansas City and his 25 million tourists, he's busy kissing butts of developers who are building useless high rise apartments with no parking in bad areas and also causing housing prices to tank in places like Central Hyde Park.

I will go to another farmers market for free and is a lot cleaner than Kansas City. The K.C. market has become really dirty.

  4. I was going to comment, but everyone else said what I was going to say. Except the gay slur comment. I wasn't going to say that.

  5. Knowing this Mayor as I do makes me wonder who owns the "Private Parking Company" that takes in these proceeds.

    Come on, Media, research!

  6. The streetcar caused the problem. Let them fix it. Take some of the fare revenue and build public parking garages.

  7. There are other reasons to go to City Market besides the weekly farmers market. There are a lot of good, unusual small restaurants, and with the coming addition of Pigwich there will be one more. The riverboat museum is definitely worth seeing, and of course Planters Seed is a mainstay. In my view the penalty for parking violations is not high enough, and not enough effort is going into enforcement.

  8. I’m not spending any money where I have to pay to park. I’ll drive past downtown to other places. You business owners downtown making parking complaints to police get what you deserve with slow business.
