Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Campaigning For Congressional Contender Brent Welder: Big Mistake?!?

Bernie coming to town is nice but it's not big news. He's an icon, people love the old codger and his crazy ideas (in theory) and there just isn't the level of antipathy toward him despite hardcore right-wing efforts. In fact, he earned scores of fans during his last KC area visit.

However, harsh feelings directed at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her outright socialism are another story.

Even hardline Democratic Party supporters question her stance.

Example:

New York Times: Democratic Socialism Is Dem Doom

The local angle . . .

KMBC: Former Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is coming to Kansas City next week. New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is coming with him. They will be campaigning for Kansas 3rd District Democrat Brent Welder.

We want to talk about this more but for now, we ask the TKC blog community tonight . . .

IS BRENT WELDER MAKING A BIG MISTAKE BY TAKING CAMPAIGN HELP FROM THE NATION'S MOST CONTROVERSIAL NEWBIE DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST?!?!

The Johnson County "golden ghetto" is leaning more progressive but it's unclear if leftist NYC politics will play in Kansas.

You decide . . .

  2. Wake up America. Look at History. I HAVE stated this Before. Just look at South America. THE Socialist Government has many countries in a deep depression. That is why many people want to come to live in the U.S. And many have told me. THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS MOVING TO far to the left . There will be violence. Because Socialist if they can't have there way they protest and use violence to get there way it's Happening in America. And the main stream media eggs them on to make it worse. People start a Strong Independent Party. The Republicans and Democrats both have problems.

  3. Foot note That is why people are leaving Illinois, THE Democrats have Bankrupted,THE state. It is good news For Missouri Republicans. Many have moved to Missouri. And I'm sure they won't be voting Democrat.

  4. She is, in no way, a Socialist. This from Monica Showalter.

"Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the upstart Democratic Socialist who shocked the political world in the June primary when she defeated 10-term incumbent Rep. Joseph Crowley of New York, once advocated for tax cuts when she was running a business of her own, uncovered news reports from 2012 reveal.

Ocasio-Cortez, 28, is a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an organization that calls for the abolishment of capitalism and argues that “private corporate property is not only wrong, but also nonsensical.” Her campaign platform calls for instituting a single-payer health care system, a federal jobs guarantee and housing as a human right, radical and expensive policies she says will be funded through raising taxes on corporations and high-income Americans.

But Ocasio-Cortez appeared to have a different outlook on capitalism and taxes in 2012 when she was running a business of her own, Brook Avenue Press, an incorporated publishing firm for children’s books set in the Bronx. As a business owner, she came out in support of a bill that would provide tax deductions for business start-up costs, arguing that taxes directly impacted her business profits.

“You don’t really make a profit in your first year,” Ocasio-Cortez told the now-defunct DNAinfo when she was 22. “To get taxed on top of that is a real whammy.”

Bernie Sanders has a huge house and a vacation home to match now. Cortez is a lot more like her namesake Hernando Cortez in my opinion.

She will raise a bundle of campaign cash most of which she'll pocket, and then it's on to the lake house, a book deal, wise commentary on MSNBC to tell the rest of us (or anyone dumb enough to tune in) how to live. If she accidentally wins in Nov more millions, less work. Great business plan. The Liberal Media is slobbering all over her now, you would think she split the loaves and fishes just last Sunday.

The 28 year old bartender is every bit as qualified as Obama.

I predict a great future for her.

  6. They will have her For Lunch,in Congress Talking about Swimming with the SHARKS.THE DEMOCRATS WILL TELL HER to tone it down. Stay to the Center. Because if they go to far to the Left that will be the end of the Democratic party. Ask a political science major. Tell the American people what they want to hear. And pass laws that benefit the Multi National Corporations.

  7. Another bush league mistake by Welder and his folks, just like the attempt to tie the Wyandotte sheriff deputy murders with gun control.
Bringing Bernie and this latest "rising star in the Democratic Party" socialist to the 3rd District may make a big splash and help win the primary, but it will be a killer in the general election.
$15/hour minimum wage; free college; abolishing ICE?
    In Johnson County, Kansas?
With an overwhelming majority of moderate pro-business Republican voters?
It's not hard to imagine the Yoder television commercials of this fiasco.
Get ready for the Star reporting that Welder "almost" won.

  8. Oh good grief a labor lawyer who is having socialist from the east coast to support him? No thanks. Hey, while we are at it maybe Jason the big pander Kander can join the party too. Actually he is a Clinton plantation type and probably is angry with Bernie .

  9. I thought Welder was doing good but as the election gets closer, it seems he is falling apart from the "help" that he is getting from his supporters. By the time the voting starts he will have moved so far left that nobody from JoCo or WyCo will trust him.

  10. Welder speaks to a lot of people. Never see Yoder around. That is the key to victory for any opponent.

    ....today's Democrat snowflake

  12. Wrong!

The appeal of Welder is his honesty, non-swamp creature approach.

Bernie will put him on the map; he needs name recognition. Beyond that, honest opposition to the whole corrupt system, not just narrow resistance, will help Welder's branding.

Once he's on the radar, then it will be up to Welder's retail political skills.

Ocasio-Cortez is a charismatic dragon-slayer who won against the corrupt elites. It's hard to understand, but the Kansans want honest people in government, principled people, before they want this or that position.

The raw voltage of a Bernie- Ocasio-Cortez event will be amazing. Welder will be on his own way after that.

    1. She hasn't won anything,in case you haven't noticed her opponent will be on the ballot in November by using a clause of a smaller party to remain on the ballot.

    2. Koolaid much? Ocasio-Cortez has already been exposed as a fake; she's a rich girl from Westchester County, which definitely ain't the Bronx. ;)

She's gonna sell in Kansas like a fur coat in July. The paleolibs like Pelosi are backpedaling from her like crazy. On the national stage, she'll fail badly--she certainly has slain no dragons yet.

The political discussion now is about the economy and back pocket issues. Ocasio-Cortez thinks the government should pay for everything! Good luck floating a privileged commie to the Rust Belt. ;)

I agree with you to a certain extent, but, she ain't goin anywhere. The Democrats are STUCK with her. The irony, is, that the Main Stream Media is going to fuck the Democrat Party, just like it fucks middle class America with Ms. Cortez.

They love her. The camera loves her and the fat lady is singing the Mexican National Anthem in the background.

No matter what happens in the November election, which I think she will win, again, because the media will hyper her to hell and back, she is now, barring an Anthony Weiner type scandal, here for the long term.
