CONSENSUS: SOCIALIST CELEBRITIES WON'T WIN VOTES IN KANSAS 3RD DISTRICT CONGRESSIONAL CONTEST!!!

Congressional contender Brent Welder was doing well against Congressman Yoder right until the point he started believing progressives on the national level rather than his own experience.

We've noted that Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks has been a staunch advocate of the upstart candidate as he attempts to debunk the notion that "all politics is local" in an effort to galvanize progressives across the nation in order to champion avowedly liberal candidates. That's great in theory but in practice donations from hipsters in NYC don't mean much for a candidate in Middle-America who now threatens to be blacklisted and confined to the political fringe given the very real Heartland aversion to an ideology that his been held in contempt since the days of the Cold War. Kansas is not Queens. People are friendly, to a point, but also easily scared by talk of higher taxes or state interference into their lives of quiet consumer desperation.

But I digress . . .

Mr. Welder has made it this far by talking about issues that matter to voters like healthcare, jobs and corporate control of politics.

When he strayed into culture war issues like gun control, he was quickly smacked down.

And now in a defining move for his candidacy, he's counting on progressive star power instead of street level advocacy that had served him so well.

To wit . . .

BRENT WELDER HAS COMMITTED A HORRIFIC MISCALCULATION IN TOUTING SOCIALISM TO KANSAS VOTERS!!!

Congressman Yoder is weak on the economy and is outright anti-labor. Even worse, Congressman Yoder's increasingly strong defense of Prez Trump makes his otherwise moderate record seem unhinged. There was room to challenge Rep. Yoder but Kansas also isn't Cuba despite the record of fickle JoCo/WyCo voters who aren't as party loyal as the decidedly Red State.

A brief description of the district and Mr. Welder's predicament . . .

"Kansas's 3rd Congressional District is the only one in the Great Plains that backed Hillary Clinton for president, but it is far from a liberal outpost. For 12 years, it sent centrist Democrat Dennis Moore to Congress; Rep. Kevin Yoder, elected in the red wave of 2010, is the first antiabortion Republican to hold it for more than one term."

Again, Mr. Welder had a chance here but as a candidate who was going to bring reform and not total upheaval to this district in constant flux.

  4. Welder is honest and not a swamp creature. That is what the voters will care about, imho.

The celebrity backers will help him win the primary. Why? Because they'll motivate voters who will vote.

Not many voters will show up, so turning out committed folks will make him win easily.

THEN, for the general election, the big names who might turn off independents and moderates can take a back seat.

The freshness and candor factors will then help Welder.

Sounds like this might be your first electoral rodeo.
The far lefties' visit will get Welder some free media and better name recognition and may very well help him win the primary.
But they will not fade into the background for the general, as you're hoping, or maybe wishing.
Yoder's television ads will endlessly put them into people's faces for weeks and weeks before the November election.
Over and over and over again.
Welder and Bernie and the socialist from the Bronx.
And maybe throw in a little Pelosi, just for good measure.
Yoder will win by at least eight points.

  13. Funny thing about these high-profile Socialist politicians, they're WEALTHY CAPITALISTS!!

Bernie Sanders and his wife are multi-millionaires. Bernie believes in himself so much that when he found out the DNC, Wasserman-Schultz, and Hillary Clinton had cheated him out of the 2016 nomination, he rolled over, took the payoffs, and endorsed Hillary! What a wimp.

Ocasio-Cortez is a working-class girl from the Bronx? What? At age 5, her family moved to wealthy Westchester County. She went to Boston University, interned for Senator Ted Kennedy, and when her architect father died she inherited big bucks. She's pro-Black Lives Matter, pro-LGBT special rights, pro-abortion, pro-gun control, free college, free healthcare, abolish ICE, impeach Trump, open borders, blah blah blah.

  14. I'm a Yoder voter.

He can tell me any lie he wants and I believe it.

He promises balanced budgets and then votes for huge annual spending bills and new debt.

Supported strong borders but wrote a bill to help the illegal from Lawrence stay here.

Runs TV commercials of "local" supporters that are sitting under palm trees.

He promises family values and then gets drunk and skinny dips on his trip to the holy land.

All fine by me. Love that swamp creature that will eventually drain it.
