TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! KCPD CONFRONT DOWNTOWN TICKET CRACKDOWN ANGST FROM KANSAS CITY MOTORISTS!!!

Our blog community was FIRST to blog the warning . . .

THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY PARKING TICKET CRACKDOWN IS UNDERWAY!!! DRIVERS AREN'T HAPPY WITH COSTLY FEES!!! QUESTIONS ABOUT THE POLICY ALREADY CONFRONT POLICE!!!

For their part, KCPD has been forthright in their view of increased parking enforcement.

Their latest tweet today:

"Parking enforcement has increased city-wide, particularly downtown . . . That's where majority of towing is happening right now. Whether a car is towed depends on a host of factors: how long it's been there, neighborhood complaints, if it's stolen, etc."

To which concerned downtown denizens have replied:

"The issue is not with writing tickets or towing. I have observed unfair, inconsistent and unequal enforcement of parking and towing downtown. It seems to vary day to day, hour by hour, location by location and officer by officer. We need a better solution for residents."

And so we pose the question to our AWESOME TKC BLOG COMMUNITY . . .

IS THE DOWNTOWN PARKING CRACKDOWN FAIR OR JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF POLICE ORDERED TO PROTECT THE INVESTMENTS OF DOWNTOWN DEVELOPERS?!?

You decide . . .

  1. Parking tickets have always been a game of chance. If the enforcement seems random, that's because it is.

    1. That's a great theory but it's not accurate. TKC has the police on record admitting that they're focusing on downtown. But anybody who knows KC understands there are parking problems across the city. The enforcement inside the loop is just another way to move the poor people out of the era and make sure they don't come back. Meanwhile, there are a lot of other parts of KC that could benefit from more police enforcement.

  4. @2:04, first one, correct about the poor people. One of Slie's agenda items is moving everything from the downtown area that would give it an unfavorable image.

  5. Wrong on all the above. One Kick-ass TKC insider says that "I have observed unfair, inconsistent and unequal enforcement of parking and towing downtown. It seems to vary day to day, hour by hour, location by location and officer by officer. We need a better solution for residents."

Really? Really? You have observed 24/7? You're damn right enforcement will vary day to day, hour to hour..well no duh! Each officer and situation is different. Stop shitting yourself. Much ado.

  16. Hahaha. Strict parking enforcement is the NORM in the downtowns of most cities. Haha. That's why when you travel, or you're in a new area, especially densely populated areas you have to be vigilant and look for street signs, double-check that you're not illegally parked.

Kansas City is amateur hour, I swear.

  25. If I had to guess the Mayor and the CROOKED city council THUGS have their hand in the lucritive KC towing Biz, A tow in this city costs just about as much as a Ambulance ride!!! Red and blue lights are for Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement vehicles ONLY, (State Statue) yet tow truck companys light up like a Fire Truck, Cop Car, and a Ambulance, in fact they have more Red and Blue lights than A Modot mortorist asssit driver does, and the Modot motorist assist service doesnt RAPE the people they help infact their service is free to the people they help, must be a local deboggle because the state has statutes and the municipalities make their own rules it seems....just one question! Tell me why weed isnt legal in the city limits yet? Because aparently the local government is on CRACK!!!

  28. Residents and businesses are competing for limited on street parking and the city is only listening to the complaints of businesses. Captain Hernandez with KCPD told one resident that he ordered the tows because people weren’t getting the message with tickets alone which implies the tows are more for added punishment versus having some real public safety impact. Owners of parking garages like Commerce Bank don’t want citizens to have inexpensive parking options on the street so they can profit more. KCPD is unfairly targeting downtown for revenue policing and not doing the same in other areas of the city. Hopefully someone will eventually look at the numbers and see a disturbing pattern. It’s not about receiving consequences for breaking the law, it’s ensuring that the laws are being enforced equally across the city. That’s not being done.
