Tonight, an important denial and a bit of explanation for this ongoing criminal justice crisis that threatens local women more than any #MeToo social media slapfight.

41 Action News: KCPD crime lab director addresses rape kit backlog

On Tuesday, Linda Netzel, the director of KCPD's crime lab, addressed a preliminary report from an audit Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley conducted that indicates there are nearly 5,000 untested rape kits across the state.

"But my peers have reported anywhere from zero kits in backlog to 200 kits in backlog, so where the remaining thousands are coming from has to be from the agencies in their storage facilities," Netzel said.

The report showed the longest average turnaround time for rape kits was 211 days at KCPD's crime lab.

Better title: KCPD passes the buck.

With the rape problem in the COUNTY JAIL which is downtown you would hope they have some kits there. I get it, rapes occur in prisons but in county jails this should not be happening. It sounds like the Jackson County jail culture pretty much is a prison.

Can’t we just get some queers to do a taste test of the semen and see if it is a match to the semen of the suspect? Plus most queers have a large database of guys they have already sampled.

In Franky Gold Gloves world a rape in the jail is like a fine wine,it only gets better with age

^^^ Ouch.

But that actually has some truth to it. There is no statue of limitations on rape in Missouri. The cases are all still pending.

Kudos to KSHB for at least attempting to cover both sides of the story. Something that the newspaper has given up on.
