Kansas City Downtown Public Library Celebrates Old School Hip-Hop Satire CB4 Amid Rooftop Movie Series 10th Anniversary

Apropos for #TBT, this week the Downtown Kansas City Public Library announces the kick-off of their Summer movie series which focuses on musical movie classics.

The highlight for this blogger is the 1993 comedy classic CB4 wherein Chris Rock shows prescient wisdom by exposing hip-hop music & culture as mostly just a big lie and a get rich quick scheme for most of its practitioners, proponents and liberal, middle-class-white enthusiasts.

Here's some background on the local movie fest:

The series celebrates its 10th year this summer, and has gone from being a sparsely attended afterthought to averaging hundreds of filmgoers at each screening. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own seating, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to the free event. Adult drinks are provided by local brewery KC Bier Co., which offers attendees two beers with admission.

According to Courtney Lewis, who handles media relations for the library, the event was born out of a desire to provide the public with a social event that took advantage of the Central Library’s downtown locale.

“The Central Library has a beautiful rooftop at night, but we realized that the library closes at 5 o’clock on Fridays, so nobody gets to see it,” Lewis said. “And we thought the space was just dying to have a great weekend event. So we set out to hold an event where people could go up there to watch a movie – sort of like a drive-in without cars.”

  10. Don't be too hard on the haters. They just feel left out.

Maybe John Knox Village will hold movie night for the geezers.

OK, maybe not movie night. A twilight showing right after the 3:30 early bird special could work.

Schedule some conservative favorites like "Bedtime for Bonzo", "Birth of a Nation", and a few Dinesh D'Souza's fake documentaries. Get a local prune juice company to serve refreshments. Remember to take down the "Get Off My Lawn" signs for the afternoon. Ahhhh, good times.
