TKC MOMENT OF DOUBT: CRITICS CLAIM COUNCILMAN REED HAS ABANDONED FAITH COMMUNITIES!!! WILL CHURCHES FORSAKE HIS BID FOR KANSAS CITY MAYOR?!?

A controversial move to booze up the 18th & Vine District might not bring biz back to the area but has otherwise alienated an important constituency for one of this town's most ambitious politicos.

To wit . . .

3RD DISTRICT LEADERS SHARE FURY AGAINST COUNCIL DUDE JERMAINE REED FOR HIS ROLE IN MINIMIZING THE POWER OF KANSAS CITY FAITH COMMUNITIES!!!

An important example . . .

Urban League Prez & CEO  Gwen Grant recently roasted Councilman Reed and blasted "An ordinance that stripped churches and schools in the 18th & Vine District of their power to veto a liquor license of any business within 300 ft. of their doors. The ordinance targets only the 18th & Vine District while allowing Zona Rosa, The Plaza and Westport to retain their veto power. The power of churches and schools to determine or weigh in on what types of businesses locate in close proximity to their operations should remain sacrosanct. Shame on you, Councilman Reed, and hopefully the 3rd District electorate will hold you accountable."

Ms. Grant is correct that Council dude Reed's ordinance initially targeted special consideration for an 18th & Vine District church. However, in order to clean up the legislation the Council was forced to apply the law in all entertainment district.

And so, going into fundraising season, one of Council dude's greatest accomplishment has been to diminish the role of faith communities in Kansas City government policy and, like it or not, this threatens to alienate a great many people of faith from supporting his mayoral ambitions.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. Reed never really has a shot at becoming Mayor but opposition from his own district should inform potential corporate employers that his influence has been seriously diminished.

  5. When what passes for "the faith community" east of Troost has to decide between religion and good 'ole cold hard cash, it's no contest.
Any consideration of Reed as mayor is a bad joke, even in KCMO, but when the campaigning starts, the destinations of those envelopes will be all that matters.
Does anyone even remember the "issues" that were discussed during the last campaign?
    It never changes.

  8. Please do NOT let Jim Rowland run for Mayor again. He worked in St Louis in about 1990 and was "walked" out of our office there.

  9. If you want to dismiss Churches, just remember that their members vote.

And don't expect them to vote for you or your stooges.

  10. Maybe him and crooked ass modest miles can milk the city out of more money for empty lots. If he wasn't taking it in the ass he would've never been elected
