TKC MUST SEE!!! KANSAS CITY SALES TAX SPENDING REVEALS BIG MONEY DEDICATED TO PET PROJECTS OVER INFRASTRUCTURE DESPITE MAYOR SLY PROMISES!!!

City Hall is asking for EVEN MORE CASH  and sales tax renewal come April but there's not a lot of deets on how they've spent the money so far.

To wit . . .

SPECIAL THANKS TO BAD-ASS TKC TIPSTERS WHO SHARE A LOCAL REFERENCE REVEALING KCMO SALES TAX CASH SPENDING!!! HINT: THERE'S A LOT OF PET PROJECTS AND NOT SO MUCH INFRASTRUCTURE ON THE LIST!!!

Here's the word . . .

"You might want to provide this link to a +5000 line pork barrel list of projects from KCMO. This what the city has spent the one cent sales on the last 10 years. You will see Starlight, fire stations, Ruskin High School, Swope Park geriatric, Streetlights, Streetcars, Debt service, Power & Light, Zoo Improvements, etc."

Money line . . .

"You would have thought real journalists in KC would be examining how KC has spent over $1 billion but they are usually just cheerleaders for city hall."

Take a look:

Capital Improvements Sales Tax Expenditures FY 2008-2018, provided by the KCMO Budget Office . . .

    1. Noticed that a few of your blog commenters are getting the message.

      It's about MOMENTUM!

Kansas City has been on an INCREDIBLE win streak over the past few years and we must keep up the pressure to improve our city. What you call "pet projects" are really the building blocks of a better life for all of KC - That is the most important kind of infrastructure our city needs. Now, with this sales tax renewal we have dedicated infrastructure projects that are vital to our economic health of all KCMO from the urban core to the first and second districts in our north land.

The choice belongs to kc, we can invest in our future or cut our own throats. I have faith that we will continue to do the right thing.

    2. Obviously a consultant or maybe just someone who is delusional.

The "momentum" of which you speak is taking KC directly to the poor house and one step closer to bankruptcy every day.

  2. Aren't we really talking about sales taxes downtown coming close the highest in the midwest and maybe even the nation?

No wonder a beer at the P&L district costs 12 bucks.

  3. Of course the Money is being whizzed away on "developments", did you expect anything different?

When have "Slick Sly" and his minion "Toady Troy" not spent 24/7 playing "Steppin Fetchit" for J.E. Dunn and the rest of the Kansas Developers?

If you think this is bad, wait till "Jolly Jolie Justice" is n office and has the chance to prove that a "LGBTQXXLSPQRLSMFT" female can play "House Nigger" for that crowd just as well as Sly ever did.

  4. Oh my God $9 million on FLOOD CONTROL? Those bastards!!!

  5. I guess you might call the swirling action taking place as Kansas City is going down the proverbial bankrupt losers drain "momentum".

  6. All that money spent on bridges, what a waste, greedy pork barrel stuff, making sure bridges don't collapse!!! Those bastards! I'd rather fall into the river!!!

  7. "Obviously a consultant or maybe just someone who is delusional. "

    These are not mutually exclusive.

Trolley boy is a delusional consultant.

  8. So, I mean bridges? Fire stations? debt service? this is real groundbreaking stuff here. I mean god forbid we actually make any improvements. God the worthless TKC insiders again.

  9. As part of our infrastructure, I would like to see a high class strip club downtown filled with hot young sluts instead of broken down old whores. The place should be classy with drugs easily available.

  10. Building blocks for a better K.C.? I think what you really mean is, building blocks for wealthy slum lords who want huge over priced condos in the urban core at the tax payer expense to fund their infrastructure, while the rest of the city goes down with crime broken, water lines, no police to handle flash mobs, torn up roads, crumbling curbs, flooding streets, which in turns causes business to leave the Plaza, and other areas, not to mention the tourism WE DON'T GET. Maybe you see ghosts!

Why don't you tell the people the truth! Your tax dollars are at work illegally for wealthy corporations and not for the people. The city looks like HELL!

  11. For all those who think there is momentum just drive through any area south of Brookside and a few blocks east of state line. Probably 3/4 of the land mass and half the population south of the river and it is in steady decline. Then go north of the river to some older areas and the decline is starting there too. So if you believe that a few thousand inhabitants of a highly subsidized area have generated momentum then I say go ahead and support everything the looters and grifters are selling.

  13. 7:26: You're right. There are potholes even on Ward Parkway. (Two major ones just north of Gregory.) It seems the city is not interested in anything that doesn't involve new taxpayer-subsidized construction or fixed rail "transit."

  14. this will tax kansans which is only fair.

  15. Thanks Sylvester

  16. @9:02am
No, actually fewer Kansans will shop and spend money in KCMO.
    Which is only SMART.
The KCMO gang seems to constantly forget that of the 2.5 million residents of the metro, only around 470K of them live in their cow town.
Lots of options which are easier to get to, less expensive, more upscale, and even safer.
KCMO government's focus on big corporations and developers sure doesn't help their local small businesses.
    How's Mike's new taxpayer-subsidized hotel coming?

  17. ^^Just fine. Should be a great addition to downtown!

  18. Hernandez, get off this blog, you're not fooling anyone!

  19. Most of the people who are hired on City projects through contracts DO NOT live in Kansas City (Almost 90% non- Kansas Citians get construction, consultant pay, from Kansas City taxpayers. The City has these records!) Then they live and pay property taxes, and do their purchasing in suburban areas. The political elites who run Kansas City themselves...do not live in Kansas City. These are the ones who direct the corruption scams to keep the City of Kansas City as a "Cash Cow"!

  20. 3 million in interest payments in 2007.
12 million in interest payments in 2018.

    Interest rates in 2007 = 7.9% (avg. T. Bonds)
    Interest rates in 2018 = 4.1%

    ReplyDelete
  21. Lower interest rates on debt is not a great argument, when the debt level is ever increasing due to corrupt development scams. Debt is Debt!
Excessive City Debt can crush a City that is not measurably growing in size and population. Just ask Detroit!

  22. 940 is right that at the margin kansans will shop elsewhere.

the thing is, however, that an overwhelming portion of what kansans purchase in kcmo are items or services not available in kansas, e.g., urban entertainment.

maybe aplliance and other large durable purchases would be the worst hit.

anybody have time to calculate the kcmo sales tax vs. the overland park sales tax on a $1,000 washer?

    ReplyDelete
  23. 11:34 I was making the point that the debt payment is much larger DESPITE interest rates being lower.
Keep up here or go back to your hole....

  24. KC is such a corrupt town! That airport fiasco - private meetings at private clubs and a sole source contract for local Burns and Mac, then when public outcry demanded and RFP cycle, the city manager wanted Burns and Mac to have a free chance to respond to other RFP respondents in what the city manger called a "Swiss Cheese" look. I have never seen such arrogant and outright corruption. And the city council just sits back and accepts this type of behavior as part of the cycle of local politics. Well, its not the norm in other cities. It is embarrassing. I am ashamed when this topic comes up at dinner parties, over coffee and at happy hour. The end does NOT justify the means. And now this pork barrel list of projects. This city is run afoul. The city couldn't even get shortlisted for Amazon, but yet three of KC's peers did - Nashville, Columbus, Indianapolis. I'd sure would like to see one of those city managers make their way to Kansas City and work for us here. I am ashamed of my city.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 12:34 is Correct!! The end does not justify the means. A corrupt $1.2 billion airport contract, handing $30 million of tax payer money over to the ill experienced PRIVATE hotel developers then having a mayor proudly proclaim he has worked 7-years on the deal? Do you know how many hotels have been built in the U.S. alone in the last 7 years? -Hundreds!!! There was a group of three council lady's charging ahead to bring clarity on some of this stuff. What happened to Teresa Loar? - she campaigned for months/years about these big projects but couldn't' build consensus for change - she has proven absolutely irrelevant. Heather Hall is the most well intended on the council and has the right instincts, but is always this close from asking the best probing question to bring the light of day and Katheryn Shields is the most knowledgeable and fearless, but nothing ever gets done. Go4KC above is so very naive, they should be wholly worried how this reflects long-term to the citys reputation and brand. And by that I mean how does this appear to those outside the KC orbit, those considering moving to KC? investing in KC? This is not “momentum” this is embarrassing and shameful. GO4KC should stop towing the company line and reflect on why KC did not get shortlisted for Amazon. Understand that you will understand everything wrong and everything right with KC. Until then we will never shake our Cowtown brand.

  26. An astute observer would observe that of the 5100 projects listed, 4900 have $0 spent on them.

So much for "pet projects." But twist the truth however you please. Real people can figure out the truth.

  27. some kcmo problems are inherent because of the unusual structure of the metropolitan area.

if overland park and other kansas suburbs formed a coherent whole, that hypothetcal city would be much better governed.

no, the suburbs wouldn't rule, but they'd help keep governance more upright.
