TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! COUNCILMAN JERMAINE REED PLAN TO BOOZE UP KANSAS CITY 18TH & VINE STAYS LOSING!!!

Fierce resistance from faith community leaders and neighborhood stakeholders once again SHUT DOWN a controversial ordinance to relax liquor codes in the 18th & Vine entertainment district today.

Here's the word . . .

"In today's Neighborhood and Public Safety Committee Hearing Councilman Jermaine Reed's controversial liquor ordinance, which attempts to silence the ability of churches to dissent against more liquor near them, FAILED to make it out of committee. Councilman Reed arrogantly refused to accept amendments offered to the ordinance."

Ordinance #180122 was held FOR THE SECOND TIME and without some compromise the legislation looks like it might die in committee.

Moreover . . .

SWIFT PUSH BACK AGAINST FROM 3RD DISTRICT MINISTERS & NEIGHBORHOOD ADVOCATES REVEALS COUNCIL DUDE REED DIDN'T DO MUCH RESEARCH BEFORE SPONSORING THIS LEGISLATION!!!

In fact, almost immediately Grace Temple Pastor Demean Ellis spoke out against the measure that could put a bar right next door without giving his congregation any legal recourse: “They put the law in to protect, and now they want to take that away, and who suffers is the church," he said.

This is important because Councilman Reed is in the midst of a mayoral campaign and he's seemingly unable to garner support within the heart of his own district.

  1. Relaxed liquor codes are not the answer, he should be working on more street lights, trash pickup and better security.

    1. Here's what this "reveals" to me. 18th & Vine was just awarded 7 million dollars with another 20 million pending from KCMO and there still is no plan to create more business and hopefully make the district self sustaining or at least a viable investment for the 3rd.

    2. The liquor codes are fine the way they are.

The testimony at the February committee meeting warned Reed that there was already too much alcohol in the district and summer shootings & broken bottles are a sign of that. He didn't listen or even care what people who do business in the district seem to think.

      Sad.

  4. 18th and Vine is a shit hole. Nobody goes there more than once. Most don't go ever. It is full of hoodlums, deadbeats, thieves and thugs. Did I mention shit breath brothers?

  5. Build on what they already have and build daytime attractions for people to visit. We already have enough nightlife options in KC.

The NLBM is the way to go and there could be more opportunity for the Gem Theater.

But bar business is profitable in its own right and should't get our tax dollar support.

  6. Jermaine is not going to get much support for mayor because everybody knows how stupid he is. He just is not intelligent enough to be mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Just give the area to the "teens" that terrorized the Plaza again last weekend. They need somewhere to go, well here you are.

    ReplyDelete
  8. As expected. All stupid comments. No one is trying to booze up 18th & Vine. What they're trying to do is make it a viable entertainment district. You can go to the plaza, westport, zona rosa and power & light for nightlife and liquor licenses flow freely. But 18th & Vine should be different why? Because a single church things liquor is the devil's handiwork? Give me a break.

    1. Well, that argument worked well for Morning Star Baptist Shithead Missionary Church and their laughable Pastor. You think Jermaine Reed is stupid, that dumb degenerate fuckhead they call Pastor Miles is a metastatic cancer. I am sure you were part of that bandwagon for East Patrol. Niggas dont know what side they want to be on, except the side that furthers their failed agenda. Gtfoh

  15. that's just what those "folks" need...more booze...and give em' guns too...may solve a lot of society's problems...couldn't hurt...just sayin'...

  16. Reed is the kind of idiot Kansas City does not need as Mayor. Hw would be nothing but Sly James II.

  17. Who cares what they do in the ghetto as long as more taxpayer money isn’t wasted on 18th & Vine. Just open a bunch of drug houses, that’s what they really want.

    ReplyDelete
  18. ^^^^^^^The apartments on the east side of the district already do the supplying of drugs. You know the place with all the huge lights surrounding it like you'd see at a prison.

  19. @9:26pm
Reed may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but at least he's not the one who signed off on a 99 year exclusive "development" deal with Cordish.
When it comes to dumb in KCMO government, there's plenty to go around and has been for years.

  20. 11:08 Why don't you lose the attitude, you're talking out of both sides of your mouth! Trying to make it an entertainment area includes boozing it up, and in that area it's not going to be a good thing.

And yes booze causes problems with people, or maybe you're too drunk to see that!

A single church has the right to fight this, and there's NO SUCH THING as viable entertainment in that area.

So why don't you get a clue and give us a break!

    ReplyDelete
  21. ^^^^^^^^I like that

  22. Here is the dangerous thing in this booze plan. The boon musicians association was given an exception to state law and is allowed to serve liquor pretty much 24/7. Now you go and open up a bunch of drinking establishments in the area and they will all be screaming for equal treatment - meaning lets let 18th and Vine district sling booze 24/7. Next club owners all over the county will be raising hell over the racist, discriminatory bias. Of course the city will love it. KC is all in favor of any crime that makes the city fine money, but the public safety issues and booze fueled violence and crime will increase significantly. This bullshit needs to be stopped now. KC needs to crawl out of the ghetto not make it their identity.

  23. He is just not very smart.

  24. What does Jason Parson say? Isn’t he head of the Black Mafia at 18th and Vine? Shouldn’t Jason, Jermaine and Quinton (If there is a camera and opportunity to pander for the black vote) Lucas have built consensus wiff dat black church first? Before trying to ram this through? Typical blacks - they are their own worst enemy! NOTHING WILL EVER HAPPEN THERE.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey 6:42am ... Reed voted for the crazy convention hotel on the previous council and helped to push the airport through that ridiculous sole source then convoluted RFP process. What makes you think he is making a wise decision here? - He’s not. He’s being played by city staff and tripping over his own feet.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It would seem if you want to create black support for something just launch a government contract and the blacks will organize themselves and scream for 30% Minority Workforce. “Give me that because I am black !!!”
