KANSAS CITY STUDENT WALKOUT PROTEST WEDNESDAY: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE NEXTGEN AGAINST GUN RIGHTS?!?!

Today Kansas City students join a nationwide protest movement urging comprehensive reform of American gun laws amid the aftermath of a school shooting that left 17 people dead.

Accordingly . . .

SHOULD KANSAS CITY SUPPORT THIS YOUNGSTER ACTIVIST MOVEMENT TO STOP THE VIOLENCE???

Or . . .

IS THIS JUST MARKETING HYPE AMONG A FEW STUDENTS PROPPED UP BY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ELITE WHEREIN ANY CRITICISM AGAINST EFFORTS TO STRIP AWAY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS IS DEEMED A HATE CRIME?!?!

TKC perspective . . .

Defending the 2nd Amendment is tricky in this instance but still vital to our Democracy.

Here's the wrong way to do it:

'Skinhead lesbian': GOP candidate attacks Parkland teen Emma Gonzalez

A much more sophisticated perspective for our smarter readers:

"We shouldn’t be treating innocence as a political asset used to push the agenda of more sophisticated players."

Sadly, youngsters entering the political fray are very much akin to lambs being led to the slaughter. Thankfully, only a metaphorical one.

Advocacy and activism have become an increasingly cynical business during this exceptionally divisive era in American politics. Nevertheless, with time, bright-eyed students will eventually learn that all grassroots movements eventually become cannon fodder expended in the service of election season schemes to protect the status quo and the illusion of Democracy amid partisan slap-fighting distractions.

    1. Writing off these students is far too easy for the right.

They have a right to speak their mind because they are on the front lines of this debate, especially in Kansas City. The young people have the right to be heard and people must listen because we're literally talking about the future of our nation. It's a wonderful sign that they are speaking out against guns and aren't afraid show their commitment against violence. It's more than most would do or have done.

  2. Definitely deserve support! it's one of the most important protests we've seen in years.

  3. If school administrators allow this they are giving support for a political agenda. They probably agree with it but our tax dollars are there to educate, and when they are used to subsidize a political agenda that is a problem. What if students had marched out complaining about the cost of teacher's pension obligations? Would the administration have been proud of students for getting involved in the political process?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well teachers dying pension fund has very little to no influence on students, besides maybe keeping some better talent out of the field. Kids getting shot up at school... tad bit different senario there

  4. Stop and frisk all KCSD students.

This would be a great opportunity to take some guns off of the streets.

It's true these students have the right to speak their mind, and be heard. But what they don't have the right to do, is walk out of class showing their defiance. That's wrong and they should be expelled for this. There's a time and place to be heard!

  6. It's about damn time SOMEONE did SOMETHING to publicize the tragedy of preventable deaths in this country.

Yes, preventable - get rid of the guns, people. There, all gun deaths stopped.

And these kids? They're growing up fast - they not only have skin in this game, they ARE the skin in this game. :(

  9. Abortions kill more people than guns. Are the students going to walk out in support of stopping abortions?

  15. The young people's concern and even passion about what has happened in these schools is certainly understandable and even commendable.
But mindless undirected marches, protests, and fiery speeches without very specific policy recommendations and changes directed at specific individuals or institutions are forgotten as soon as the red lights on the television cameras go off.
Every day there's a new hashtag something or other and "outrage" over even everyday occurrences quickly push even the most serious and worthwhile causes out of the public eye.
The adults involved in all this, namely the teachers, would be much better advised to help students understand how to participate in public decision-making than to succumbing to their adolescent passions.
    A missed learning opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  16. ^^Nope. Wrong. You are not anyone to advise teachers about anything. You are not there. You are not a teacher. Teachers support this. Only the aged and jealous can't see this.

  17. This isn't the kids speaking their mind so lets not go trying to shove ten pound of shit into a five pound bag. Students have no authority to organize and walk out of schools across America unless adults were pushing this agenda. My money is on the NEA union that is cowardly against teachers doing anything to protect students. This left wing farce of a protest is simply a pack of libtards using students and tax payer money to promote a political agenda and has nothing to do with addressing the problems that have contributed to so many mass shootings. People need to stop buying into this drama queen bullshit and start holding politicians accountable to produce viable, sensible fixes.

Why don’t these kids write to their elected representatives? And in a well-thought-out, intelligent, fact-based argument, respectfully address
Their “concerns” to their state/federal elected leaders? You know: pen and paper...Whole sentences with words spelled correctly, proper grammar...Cite factual evidence and sources to validate their case??

  24. A lot of cynicism in these comments and a lot of fallacies. Primarily the fallacy of relative privation. I am seeing a lot of "gun violence isn't as bad as x, y, z" without anyone actually, you know, providing any data as to why these kids should walk out over abortion, school lunch programs, rap, etc. as opposed to gun violence. It seems many of the comments here would rather these kids mindlessly submit to authority instead of standing up for something that they truly believe in.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Do any of you geezers think that these kids give one red fuck about what any of you losers has to say? No, they don't. Do you think that any of your opinions on gun issues relates to them in the least? It doesn't. You're the past and they are the future. Let's be real, that's what's driving all this animosity towards them. The fact that they are all out doing SOMETHING and participating in their democracy intimidates you. It forces you confront your mortality and it scares you. It's easy to insult and speak ignorantly on gun control, hell you people do it daily. It's hard to stand for something and make change. God bless them and shame on you goons.

The Parkland Florida school shooting story is BULLSHIT.

The supposed shooter was well-known for years to law enforcement, mental health, and school officials, yet they did nothing to stop him. It's very likely that he was the puppet being manipulated into this situation by those who stage these social/political events.

The two students who were anointed by CNN as the school's representatives are the son of an FBI agent, and the daughter of a Democrat lawyer. Jake Tapper is a liberal Democrat who once worked for an anti-gun advocacy group. Anderson Cooper is a liberal Democrat who spent time at the CIA being trained as a media propagandist.

The vast majority of corporate media in this country are serving as a Big Brother propaganda arm of the federal government. They don't report the truth, and don't perform real investigative journalism.

They're just now finding their voice and just as Vietnam and civil rights were our issue this issue is theirs. The question is how many of those 18 year olds and those that are 17 now but be 18 by November will vote in the midterms and those that are 16 now but 18 by Nov. 2020 will stay motivated enough to vote and actually do it. Motivation is great but prolonged motivation is tough. Go get 'em kids. God speed, be well and most of all be safe.

  33. Lee's Summit school district sent out a detailed message to parents about how they will help facilitate the walkout. It will happen at a certain time, in certain areas, won't impact student work, etc. Does this sound like an act of protest or a bunch of young teenagers getting to goof off for a bit instead of being in class? The national and state teacher's unions have been very vocal on this issue. Whether coordinated to that level or not, it speaks the opinions of teachers that are enabling the protest. My takeaway - don't read too much into a bunch of kids walking out of school today.

I wish kids, parents, educators, etc. would put their energy towards doing something that will make them safer. Imagine if the time and energy was spent talking about mental illness, bullying, and preempting their peers that may be walking down the path of violence. Imagine if the level of effort spent on the #metoo movement was put towards engaging and helping this issue? Wow - that would be impactful.

The angry skinhead lesbian that the Jewish Media keeps trotting out will be discarded by her handlers once her 15 minutes of fame has expired. Does anyone really think that Americans will give up their guns ? It will never happen. No law or law enforcement agency can make that happen and any attempt by any entity in this country would be an exercise in futility.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So these children (for they truly are that) are marching for no more guns and stronger laws. Do they even know what the current laws are? Do they understand that the NRA does not sell guns, but does promote common sense laws and teaches personal safety regarding guns? Perhaps they need to stop being reactive (watching the liberal media would be a start) and start being proactive. They need to stop being led by the liberal talking heads and start doing some real research into what the laws truly are. It is not the gun that is to blame, but the lack of morals, and liberal law enforcement that will not act on credible information regarding the mental health of someone.

We are moving to an America that will embrace common sense gun laws. Anybody who cannot see that is willfully blind.
