Kansas City Black Economic Union Getting Kicked Out Of Historic 18th & Vine Lincoln Building On It's 50th Anniversary

The Kansas City Lincoln Building is an iconic structure in the 18th & Vine District and hosts a variety of local biz along with community organizations.

A point of contention and talk among the denizens of the 3rd district . . .

"The Black Economic Union (BEU) is being EVICTED from the building. BEU is celebrating it's 50th Anniversary this year."

For those who don't know . . .

"The Black Economic Union of Greater Kansas City is a non-profit founded in 1968 by Cleveland Browns football star Jim Brown and former Kansas City Chiefs' Curtis McClinton. As the oldest CDC in Kansas City, it has invested nearly $60 million, developing 635 affordable multi-family units, 320 elderly units, 85 single-family homes, and nearly 721,000 square feet of office, commercial and business development to date."

Like it or not, this is a step backward for the district that has struggled to justify more than $100-million worth of KCMO taxpayer subsidy since the 90s. Sadly, giving the boot to an organization dedicated to developing neighborhoods might not help the fortunes of the community going forward.

Developing . . .

  1. It isn’t anything another $100 million taxpayer money won’t fix. We’ll get them some new Escalades and they’ll be as good as ever.

  3. More political payoffs for people who suck the cleave and gay sLIE’s cocks. They have been getting paid for virtually doing nothing and with all that taxpayer money they won’t or can’t pay the rent? What a effing scam. Gay sLIE and the cleave should be ashamed and embarrassed but they’re just plain too stupid. Looks like time to eliminate this giant waste colored corporate welfare for good.

  4. This reminds me of the blue hills fiasco of cleavers years ago. They bought a building, had it rcompletely remodeled and stuffed it full of brand new computers and cubicles which I might add never got unboxed and it sat there for years unused. To make matters worse, dumb ole cleaber had worked out a deal with KCP&L to install new power lines and meters on every house in blue hills, including falling down and burned up houses, anyway, when KCP&L powered up those meters it caused a lot of vacant houses and a few occupied houses to catch fire. Yes siree, the cleaber and gay sLIE show is on fire once again! Lmao!

  5. Just another pissing contest between two groups of Blacks who are both deluded into thinking they have some influence and have made some accomplishments, when all they've really been doing is playing "Steppin Fetchit" for J. E. Dunn and Kansas Real Estate Developers.

  6. Oh my another failed black ran failure. Sort of like the Black Chamber of Commerce that last I seen was nothing but a burned out of shell of a building creating more eye sore in an area full of blacks.

  7. If you don't want to live and operate like these boons you are surely racists for not lowering your standards and expectations in life.

  8. NEVER expect a bunch of coons to run ANYTHING.
They fuck up everything that they touch. Just look at how they live, where they live, and who they live with.

  9. Not all blacks are bad and trashy and not all whites are clean and good.

Martin Luther King once said,"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

I can't help but think just who he would be calling the fools if he were still alive today.

  10. One would think the area would look a bit better, considering $100M has supposedly been "invested"
Must have bought a LOT of Escalades, cell phones, and Fubu Gear.

  11. Finally!!!.
The entire Lincoln Building has been a sponge soaking up City money. The City bought the building twice!!!! Renovated it many times!!!! Troy, Cleaver, and some of the representatives of Freedom Inc... have all cashed in throughout the years. This and the entire 18th and Vine Historic District, the Jazz Museum, the GEM Theater, Alvin Ailey offices. etc have all soaked up Kansas City tax payer money. Take every address in the 18th and vine district and and you can link it to a large amount of city subsidy. Now the City is subsidizing the American folk music organization's presence - purchased and renovated a building. in 18th and Vine. This is a Troy pet political project. The corruption goes on!! Everything is done under the guise of economic development. Taxpayers are continued to be scammed.

  12. @ 10:49 Another cuckservative trotting out MLK in yet another display of virtue-signalling. Pandering to Africans in America has made our once great cities into shitholes of crime and dysfunction. You really miss Glenn Beck, don't you ? #WakandaIsntReal

  13. The Lincoln building is an un-air conditioned piece of shit! Its a nest for all the bull shit of the black mafia in this town. Where are the city's elected officials on this issue? Councilman Quinton Lucas, who lives at 18th and Vine, could care less about this crap - unless there is an opportunity to pander to the black community for future votes. Jermaine Reed is the ONLY elected official trying to change things down there. Too bad he's a dunce. The blacks are so dysfunctional! I am not being rayciss. I am just being real, yo. As far as Troy Schulte? He only talks about 18th and Vine to keep issues and paperwork coming across his desk to justify his existence. Get rid of Troy and allot of things in cow town (and 18th and Vine) will change - for the better.

  14. All these comments of discontent. Easy to say people are sick of the black community because they are so endlessly dysfunctional, whine so loudly, demand 30% MBE Workforce at every turn and then nothing changes. 11:37 speaks of mafia - but its true. "THE" MBE Godfather of them all is Jason Parson. Where is he in all this? ANSWER: Laying low until the next city funded project rolls out and he can usurp work, profit, money off it for just being - black. How much are the blacks going to make off KCI? -Million$ of Dollar$. What is 30% of $1.2 Billion total airport development cost? You do the math.

  16. Hey 10:49 you need to catch up your reading skills to at least the 6th grade level. MLK would be yelling at the black race for being the losers they portray if he was alive and kicking. I bet he rolls over daily in his grave at what he sees happening in America today what with blacks killing one another right and left while stealing from their own grandmothers.

Wake the fuck up ya loser.

  18. The people who profit off of 18th & vine....(developers and consultants) don't even live in Kansas City. Just look at all of the names behind the shell corporations. Also, many of these ate not Black folk and most certainly to not represent the Black community. Jermaine Reed is another tool of the bought and paid for Freedom Inc and the corporate/developer powers that run this city.

I’m going to ignore the racists cowards, hiding behind anonymity, who we all know just want to bring down the 18th & Vine community and any Black community in general. I don’t need to post anonymously, and I refuse to spew hate.

Just so that you all are properly informed, the Lincoln Building has been purchased by a black-owned law firm which, has been a tenant in the Lincoln Building since about 2004. The Black Economic Union (BEU) sold the building to the law firm.

The BEU does not appear to be the same organization that it has been in the past, in my opinion. From my observations, the BEU now consists of only a few people. The BEU was once a very important organization doing many good things for the Black community. I wish the BEU well if the BEU is successful in developing South Vine and introducing development in the area, I can’t see how this is a negative thing. I just think that the BEU’s time has come and gone and that the BEU is no longer fulfilling its legacy and original purpose. As Councilman Reed and other new leaders attempt to make good on their brave vision for the area, I want to be a part of the group of people who usher in a new and vibrant 18th & Vine.

The Kansas City Royals, aided by Reed and others, have already invested over 20 million dollars in their youth baseball facility (a thing of beauty) and MLB is investing more… I think the Royals and many other investors know that the area is coming back...

There was no tax payer money involved in the purchase so those pushing this angle are WRONG. This is private sale and a private transaction.
I think most business in the Lincoln Building will say that they are happy with the improvements made to the building since the building has been sold. I think that most would see this as a step forward and not a step back.

  20. The Royals contribution was part of a larger MLB trend to invest back in local communities. Reed and Lucas are jokes. A fool and a hypocrite. 11:49 seems to also know whats going on at 18th and Vine. People speak anonymously because if you try and help the black community you are seen as opportunist, if you criticize the black community you are rayciss! So dysfunctional. The blacks are their own worst enemy.
