Has The Speedway Ruined Rockfest???

The line-up is about the same but the magic is gone . . . This encampment is just a bit small, not nearly as seedy and lacks the excitement that it once did. Don't just blame the location as the last days of terrestrial radio also deserve to be noted. You decide, here's the info . . .

  1. The Kansas Speedway is a better choice for an event like Rockfest. The Speedway is a facility designed to accommodate large crowds; complete with concessions, restrooms and parking (meaning you don’t have to bring in a bunch of port-a-pots and concession tents). And it’s out of the way of the downtown-midtown area so it doesn’t disrupt people and businesses there, which was a complaint in years past. Also, by having it at the Speedway, the lawn of the Liberty Memorial doesn’t get trampled and torn.

  2. Agree completely, Mr. Turner - looking forward to the day that the fan base for the Chiefs and Royals has shrunk to where they can move to The Speedway and T-Bones Field so they too can stop leeching off the KC Taxpayers. The "Johnson County Rodeo" (aka The American Royal) finally left, so maybe there's hope.

  7. My opinion, the move to the Speedway completely killed the vibe of Rockfest. Was it destructive to Liberty Memorial? Hardly, the grass grows back and it was great to see the place so busy, gives a boon to the local hotels, businesses, etc. The speedway is out in the middle of nowhere, one way in one way out is perfect for the cops, sure, but it's not convenient and the entire venue lacks character. That's what the city parks are for (my humble opinion).

  8. Perfect place for a large concert. Why a city park was torn up several years in a row when other crowd prepared locations were available is hard to understand.

As for the line-up, I think rock is almost dead.

  9. @12:35 PM.
I would hate the thought of not having the Chiefs and the Royals. I do go to one Chiefs game each season; as well as several Royals games. I do understand the "controversy" about taxpayer funding of the Sports Complex. I have written to my state reps in the past, suggesting that we consider making the Sports Complex its own "tax district". Authorize the Sports Complex to charge a "sales tax" on items and tickets bought in/for events there. The revenues from that stay within the Sports Complex for purposes of maintenance and costs. But no outside taxes pay for it (state, county, local). In essence, "privatize" the Stadiums. Those (and only those) who patronize the Sports Complex help pay for its expenses and maintenance.

As someone who does go to the occasional game like I said earlier, I would be willing to pay an extra dollar, $2, whatever on a ticket, and an extra $1 or whatever on concessions inside, for maintenance/expenses if I knew that my state/local taxes were not going to the facilities. I think that would be reasonable and equitable.

  10. Those hippie girls must have turbed down 3:48

At least 3:48 can get their meth in Branson and one of the "leather ladies of the lake" for a 12 pack and a Canax.

  13. Rockfest needs rock acts. The lineup is not rock. Call it "we are 10 years to late Rockfest".

5 finger death punch? STP ? Please, they are 90's crap.

  14. Rockfest may not be dead yet, but the fans are getting up there. It creeps me out to see some wrinkled dude pounding his guitar and trying to remember the words to a song. Time to let it die a natural death.

  15. None of you little girl bitches would talk like this about Rockfest in front of Johnny like you have here.
