KCUR: Kansas City Police May Be Hiring Even More New Officers And Dispatchers

Deets:

"The Kansas City Police Department could be getting even more money next year than first thought. While most city department budgets will remain flat next year, KCPD is looking at a $5.6 million, a 2.2 percent boost. Much of the increase will be used to hire 15 more officers and eight more dispatchers. The department's 84 dispatchers are all working mandatory 12 hour shifts, according to Deputy Chief Roger Lewis. The city council's finance committee, in addition to what was already in the proposed budget, has approved funds for hiring an additional nine officers and seven dispatchers . Under the plan, those additional hires wouldn't come on for six months and would cost the city $394,500 in the 2018-19 fiscal year. The cost would double the following year because they would be working a full year."

  2. $394,500 for additional police hires, 110-million dollars for a folly trolley and the council is griping. About time the people were heard.

  3. Those of us who were born and raised in KC already know that any promises made will NOT be kept. It's just the way KCMO does business. Voters be damned.

  4. We don’t need more dispatchers. We need more cops on the street that are willing to shoot hood rats. Don’t need dispatchers for that, just drive down Prospect.

  7. F-ing shame that mayor & council have to be backed in a corner in order to do the right thing.

  8. thank you CFRG members for putting pressure on City Hall. This is a start and we can build from here. Don't let up, keep the pressure on! GFRG posted a great white paper to their followers and on their Facebook page. The local news media wouldn't touch it, too honest .

  9. Sounds like the police union figured out how to navigate city politics. Sly has to be seathing. The last thing he wanted was another political foe.

  10. The dispatchers will be busy on Friday and Saturday evenings hopefully it doesn't make the noobies quit. They will just have to learn to get use to all the calls flooding in from the inner city.
