ZERO DAY COMING SOON: KANSAS CITY CONFRONTS GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE DUST BOWL DROUGHT!!!

Whilst 12th & Oak constantly claims progress on "smart city" tech and trendy gadgetry inside the Downtown loop, there's a far more important challenge now looming over the scorched earth of the American heartland.

Take a look . . .

"Forty percent of the USA is now in a drought which is the highest level in four years. These conditions are encroaching on Kansas City as our dry winter pattern continues. If these conditions continue in to the Spring and right now it looks like it will, then the trees and foundations will need water."

Arguments about causation are mostly just opportunities for more political blathering. What's important is that environmental impact and increasing water supply scarcity is a fact of life.

Here's an example of what happens when municipal official fail to prepare to this new reality:

Cape Town faces Day Zero: what happens when the city turns off the taps?

For all those who claim this kind of disaster could never happen in KCMO . . . A quick glimpse at the ongoing water crisis in Flint is a reminder that neglect of local pipes and the water supply is also an American dilemma.

Meanwhile, water rates in Kansas City continue to skyrocket as more and more residents are priced out of a basic necessity for life.

  1. Turn off the fountains KC. Stop wasting water.

  2. For years, Cape Town had been warned that it needed to increase and diversify its water supply. Almost all of its water still comes from six dams dependent on rainfall, a risky situation in an arid region with a changing climate.

Therefore, Tony, since you left this important fact out, it makes your commentary irrelevant and just another opening to take cheap shots at a place you hate but continue to live in because bus tickets to Los Angeles are apparently too expensive.

  3. Is Kansas City diversifying it's water supply? 8:08 - You failed at reading comprehension and life. Keep reading Tony's blog and loving it.

  4. Most people won't worry unless something definite happens. Like turning on a tap and having nothing come out. A prediction isn't real to most people. Maybe it's "fake news". Remain calm. All is well, until.......

  5. Remember, all it takes is one good sized chemical spill or a break in one of the Oil Pipelines being allowed to cross the Missouri River, and we won't have water for a week or so ourseves.

  6. What the fuck? Are things that dead around here? We need some good violent homicides.

  7. Environmental doomsayers have been making money off of people’s fears forever. Want a good laugh? Read Paul Ehrlich’s Popolation Bomb published 50 years ago. It is hilariously wrong on every prediction. Libtards still take this jokers words as gospel.

  8. Smokers need to stop throwing lit butts out the car windows.

  9. It's snowing and in the spring there will still be flooding on the Missouri and Mississippi River. Some parts of the Midwest there will be a drought as there has been over the past two hundred years.

  10. 10:59 needs an accidental mud bath at bannister. This is not about 'climate change' this is about good ol' fashioned pollution that has relegated out of the 'climate change' conversation.

  11. Pollution, over-extraction, poor land use planning, desert or drought, mudslides, the gullible & gluttonous. White folks in South Africa would be better off if they just moved. Folks in CA better off if they just moved. The diaspora of SA & CA, i will get my hanky.

  12. just point me in the direction of the white ladies' crafting group and everything will be fine.

  13. Does this mean KCMO Water Services will lower the storm water charges since there is no runoff?
