TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY SCREED TOUTS EDGEMOOR MOU APPROVAL AND BLASTS COLLEAGUES!!!

Gloating isn't a good look for any politico but in his latest missive the Mayor must think he's invincible in a systematic and far too long polemic targeting his political opponents.

We've saved the screed and you might want to screen cap it because these bitter words are going to come back to bite Kansas City's honcho and make him seem petty and vindictive . . . Almost like a blogger.

Things to look for . . .

- Mayor Sly SMACKS DOWN Council Dude Scott Wagner For Raising Concerns About Costs.

- Mayor Sly claims questions about Edgemoor's performance in Seattle are "totally separate" in a really sketchy off-record passage.

- Mayor Sly James fondly recalls "sticky" Summer nights with former Council Lady Cindy Circo. Damn.

Take a look:

Mayor Sly James Blog: Mayor James’ Remarks Regarding the Airport MOU Vote

"The reality is that projects like KCI are high stakes poker. I doubt that there is a significant developer or construction company anywhere in this country that doesn’t have some negative headlines, stories or projects that might need explaining. Heck, before Edgemoor was selected, Burns and McDonnell and AECOM privately and publicly talked about each other as if they were fighting in a schoolyard. After they were both rejected, however, they formed a convenient partnership and now Edgemoor is under attack."

  1. Are we making an extra gate at the new airport for the Mayor's ego?

    1. More than a thousand words on this MOU kinda shows us that the Mayor is nervous about where this is going. How long do you think he worked on this? It's worse than a blog post. More like a manifesto.

  3. Very amateurish. Sorry Sly, this is poor form.

  4. He has drank way too much of his own bath water.

  5. He missed the part in 2017 where he had a big press conference with Burns and McD and gave them the job. Interesting how that has been forgotten

  6. ^^Nope. To the victor go the spoils. He will be remembered as the guy who got it done! Don't hate, congratulate!

  7. Notice the high points he talks about were sports related and he had nothing to do with those. All the problems he mentions are his own fault. Sly 0 - KC sports teams 5

  9. This fiasco started with a secret meeting at a private club which resulted in the announcement of a no-bid contract for a $1.3 billion project.
And the "process" hasn't gotten any better or more professional since then.
Signing an MOU is hardly "getting it done".
Sly's just the first, but surely to be followed by others at city hall, who are already making excuses and placing blame on whoever else they can find.
And that's going to get a lot worse too.
    What an amateurish operation!

  10. Mayor Bullhorn will be remembered, if at all, as remarkable only in the broad scope of his corruption and the incompetence of its execution. On the real issues of the city he did absolutely zilch, while cheerleading amaterishly for his masters.

  13. .....And yet he's getting NOTHING DONE! The city is a MESS, and losing business everyday, attracting discounts stores, and crime!

Sad to see. He's an embarrassment, his family is an embarrassment!

  14. Spoke like someone with an agenda and unable to look objectively at the facts. Streetcars up and running under his watch, new KCI coming soon under his watch. Downtown growing leaps and bounds under his watch, tourism up, crime is up too, but how is that the fault of the mayor?

    1. The streetcar is a joke. New KCI? A massive, unnecessary con job. Tourism is ludicrously exaggerated. Downtown full of subsidized cost centers that will never turn a buck.

If Mayor Bullhorn wanted, he could shift emphasis to bread and butter issues that really mattered, like crime. Instead he selfpromotes and gets fatter.

  17. EVIDENCE PRESENTED TO THE COURT CONSIDERING THE INVOLUNTARY PSYCHIATRIC ADMISSION OF SYLVESTER JAMES:

"As a result of that spotlight, the rest of the country – indeed the world – started to say “What’s going on in Kansas City?” Citizens who had for a long time compared KC to other places, now started to see their city talked about by outsiders and media in ways they had not heard before. We then went on an unprecedented roll that has been and continues to be the envy of cities far and wide."
    ------Sylvester James speaking to Council

Your Honor, KCMO is not even the envy of the KC-metro. One simply has to examine the statistics from surrounding communities like Overland Park, Shawnee, Olathe, Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, etc. KCMO compared to it's peer cities across the Midwest, has a higher tax burden, failing public pension obligations, is inefficiently managed, and entrenched with corruption.

    We move for immediate admission.

  19. No population growth, businesses leaving left and right, racial inequity, poor quality workforce, segregated neighborhoods, high crime. A new KCI won't fix any of these fundamental problems with KC. You elect dumb officials.

  22. The one thing that stuck out for me was the discrepancy re who is building SEA-TAC airport --that it's not Edgemoor, it's AECOM.

Ouch. Scott Taylor based his whole case on claiming it's Edgemoor.

I do agree with the mayor that had the Council turned this down, they could not then move to the combo backup of AECOM and Burns & Mac. Would have had to start all over.

Tho it would have been fun to watch that fight--like lions in the Roman Colisseum.

    ---
Just read elsewhere that the City has already spent $1 million in legal fees with a UMKC grad who works for Husch Blackwell--getting to this point, six months before the first shovel. I thought the contract the council passed was for $500,000. Too high...a harbinger of cost overruns to come? We shall see!

  23. yet, all he does is win win win!

Can we please get some integrity in local government?
