TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY MAYOR SLY TOUTS LAVISH CITY HALL FAMILY LEAVE!!!

Recently, Kansas City Mayor Sly James proudly published a ringing endorsement of what could be the most generous family leave terms offered in the metro.

It's far too easy to play the jealous reactionary on this subject. Instead, think of this missive as inspiration for other employers to follow the Mayor's lead. Decent jobs in Kansas City come close to this kind of worker consideration but most wage slaves suffer under the yolk of ruthless bosses and then, tragically, adopt the same kind of abhorrent attitudes toward any kind of employee benefits.

Like it or not, the pecking order and a great many cultural myths used to drive corporate profits have always created havoc on the American workforce since back in the days when they first stopped youngsters working in factories.

While this kind of opulent policy is an outlier, working stiffs can only hope that it will one day become standard for other jobs without political connections . . . Sadly, this isn't likely at all but a nice daydream now that even the notoriously stern Germans are moving toward a 28-hour work week and higher wages.

From The Blog Of Mayor Sly James - 25 Years After the Family & Medical Leave Act: Why Every Workplace Should Offer Paid Parental Leave

Money line and description of a policy that is NEARLY UNMATCHED BY ANY PRIVATE EMPLOYER In Kansas City . . .

In 2016, the City introduced our paid parental leave policy, making us among the first cities in the nation to do so . . . The City employs over 4,300 people of different education levels, skill sets, and income levels. For many, unpaid leave wasn’t an option. It was clear to me that in order for the City to talk the talk and walk the walk, I needed to advocate for a paid parental leave policy.

Soon after, I began working with the City Manager’s Office. Our Office of Performance Management surveyed employees about the City’s work culture, and the feedback was fervently in favor of having paid leave. We were soon able to roll out a comprehensive paid leave policy in May 2016, offering employees six weeks, and up to eight in serious circumstances, of paid leave at 100% wage replacement. And this year, I’m proud to report that we’ll be adding a seventh week of paid leave. City employees, who had been unable to take leave before, would now be able to, fostering a culture that put the health of employees and their families first. Our employees are our most valuable asset. When they thrive, the City thrives, and when the City thrives, the Kansas City community thrives.

  1. What a load of shit.

City workers, with few exceptions, are on leave every day from anything anyone with with experience in the private sector would call WORK.

More Government abuse of tax payer funds for cronies and suck ups who then help all of their buddies feast at the trough.

  2. Speak on it, Big Money Grip! Mayor Bullhorn needs someone to deliver a dictionary to him with the word 'shame' highlighted.

  3. Mayor Bullhorn was out protesting the election but now is using Ivanka Trump's Paid Family Leave to make himself look good. This is HILARIOUS. He had no intentions of any kind of paid family leave and doesn't care about it, this is all a show to make him and the party look good. True it's the tax payers who will pay for it.

Chuck Schumer did the same thing the other day, repeated word for word what Trump said.

    That's the democratic.

  4. What he should say is that those in the private sector who often make much less and get no time off will pay more in taxes so the privileged class can enjoy time off.

  5. If you wonder why most businesses are reluctant to hire full time workers, and instead hire a bunch of part time people that are capped at 30 hrs/week, look no further than regulations like this.
Businesses do not exist to provide jobs. They exist to turn a profit. That government employees should somehow be treated better than their private counterparts is ludicrous. Look to Illinois and New Jersey and California to see how this ends. In the next revolution AFSCME scum will be hung from the trees.

I agree with what a load of shit. You get vacation time use it. I swear the more you give people the less you get out of them. I raised 3 kids and I never took or got 6 god damn weeks off with pay. I took my vacation time and well just lost the rest but that's what you do if you want a family.

7:44 is right it's going to cost people like me decent jobs because some fast ass no count fucking POS Mayor is seeking favors with his fellow race.

  25. Most city employees are lazy and couldn’t get a job in the real world.

  26. "the most generous family leave terms in the metro" don't mean much, given the context. This is a shithole region where employees are treated like dirt by almost every employer. Unless you are a techie or an engineer or a doctor or lawyer, or Daddy owns the company, if you work here it is an indication that you either have no sense of self-preservation, no initiative or no brains.
