Kansas City Toy Train Streetcar Claims Higher Winter Ridership Despite 'Ice Storm' FAIL

The toy train numbers are finally in for January and streetcar ESTIMATES a ridership gain of 8.4% over last year.

However, there's one important number worth reviewing in these bold assertions . . .

Take a look:

A so-called "ice storm" literally put the streetcar off-track and caused an embarrassing midday tow job.

To wit . . .

ONCE AGAIN THE TOY TRAIN FAIL HIGHLIGHTS THE WEAKNESS OF THE FRAGILE STREETCAR THAT DOESN'T WORK UNDER TYPICAL WINTER CONDITIONS!!!

Moreover . . .

REMEMBER THAT BUSES WERE UP AND RUNNING AND TRAFFIC WAS STEADY DURING THIS ALLEGED ICE STORM!!!

Furthermore, locals might have a bit less confidence in these numbers given a discrepancy of more than 50% betwixt December 2017 vs January 2018 despite weather conditions that were typical for Kansas City.

You decide . . .

  1. Year to date I'd say the streetcar has remained constant.

What worries me is the river front park addition. They're supposed to build a little city down there and using the streetcar to acts as it's transit line. It seems like an interesting idea but I'm not sure why taxpayers are having to finance a private development. Isn't this something that the owners should pay for?

    1. Agreed.

I take the streetcar every morning and half of the riders I've seen this month are just homeless trying to stay warm. Poor souls, wish there was a better place for them downtown. I notice a lot of them always make the stop near the library.

  3. Many tourists take the toy train from Crown Center Union Station. To downtown. I saw a Amish Family on the toy train They visit from Central Missouri. And they have Tourists dollars to spend. I parked at Crown Center and road the trolley to the River Market and had some Great Cajon FOOD BON TON. I GARINTEE.

  6. BREAKING!!!!!!!

Mayor James and City Manager Schulte to announce a STREET GONDOLA SYSTEM.

The streets will have to be dug up again to facilitate the interlocking canal system, and the custom made gondolas are to be sourced from Italy, just as soon as Jolie Justus completes her junket to Venice.

Engineering staff are trying to link the new canal route alongside the existing water mains which are most likely to fail next, to save on water consumption.

Despite critics pointing out the obvious flaws in the scheme, James and Schulte remain resolute citing a consultant report from the firm Titanic, Lusitania, Bismarck, LLC.

    Developing....

  7. Look at the days with the most riders. Those are Saturdays when the numbers are the highest due to outsiders coming downtown to ride the free train. Start charging a dollar per ride and watch the numbers plummet.

  11. The streetcar numbers will go down in March once the commuters lose their free park and ride lots in City Market.
