Kansas City Heartbreak Ruckus Tonight!!!

As we slouch toward "love day" here's a look at a heartfelt episode of Kansas City's GOLD STANDARD of political discourse along with differing views on all the major local headlines . . .

Mike Shanin interviews filmmaker and KCPT special projects producer Michael Price about the launch of KCPT's #KCPublicWorks reporting series about the eviction crisis in Kansas City. Gwen Grant, Shawn Saving, Laura McConwell and Patrick Tuohey discuss Kansas City's $1.5 billion dollar debt and $811 million employee pension fund shortage, the Greitens tax plan and the conflicting reporting about the Nunes memo.

Take a look:

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. I like KCpt taking on more topics but their view of the "housing crisis" is remarkable narrow and really labels a lot of people "slumlords" unfairly. Very one-sided and doesn't depict the hardships of those who invest in our city by maintaining properties but are constantly thwarted by stringent regulations.

    1. Kansas City = Debt city.

  2. Eviction crises? No landlord kicks out rent-paying tenants unless they are either destroying the property or terrifying their neighbors.

  3. You bought houses that you hoped your renters would pay for. That's not investing, that's slum lording. Stop pretending that you are altruistic.

  4. Maybe there's not a housing crisis, just a deadbeat crisis in Kansas City.

  8. Lauren McConnell is an intelligent attractive woman and I would like to have seen her roast/toast if Gwen/Glenn the 'hairhat' hadn't run her mouth so damn long as usual.

  9. It was actually Shawn Saving who prevented both Laura and Mike from having roast or toast time. That was a first to see two of five get shortchanged at the end. Had Saving made an effort to plan his comment instead of rambling on he could have taken much less time.

His amazing technicolor suit jacket was quite a look. He's frequently looking down which is awkward. Some folks just aren't suited to be television panelists.

  10. Or television hosts!
Look I don't mind anyone who has a "Bully Pulpit" for his or her political views airing them, but Shannin is becoming tiresome.

Stop inviting anyone who might have a viewpoint different from your own onto the show, don't talk over mock or belittle them! Only invite those who support the standard Republican Line onto your Panel, Mike - SURELY there are enough viewers who agree with you to keep your ratings up.

  14. HERE'S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DEMOCRATS VERSUS REPUBLICANS/LIBERTARIAN

Mike Shanin clearly stated that each guest had 30 seconds to Roast or Toast. This has been the format for years.

Gwen Grant (D) took 42 seconds

Shawn Saving (D) took 50 seconds, and had to be cut-off by Shanin.

Patrick Tuohey (L) took 24 seconds

Laura McConwell (R) didn't get a turn (though she initially passed) because the Democrats lose track of time when feeding at the trough.

Host Mike Shanin didn't get a concluding statement because the Democrats got greedy. Surprised?
