Kansas City 'Fight For $15' Minimum Wage Struggle Inspired By Civil Rights Movement

Juxtaposition for the ongoing conversation about compensation and rising income disparity as this group marks FIVE YEARS of local protesting. Sadly, the half decade of protest hasn't garnered much change as Missouri laws thwart the group and only a paltry 15-cent increase on the bottom of the pay scale has occurred. Meanwhile, Unions have encountered resistance in an effort with much lower aspirations hoping to move the minimum wage to 10 bucks over the current $7.85 level. Read more:

Activism Among Low-Wage Workers In Kansas City Echoes Successful Movements, Expert Says

Work hard and you'll be successful, is how the old adage of the American Dream goes. But the members of one Kansas City organization are adding their voices to a national movement arguing that's not really the case, and they're emerging from some of America's lowest-paying industries to do it.

  1. The civil rights movement was legitimized by the United States Constitution. The "Fight for $15" is legitimized by squat. So the comparison is laughable.

  5. I have a career that supports my family well and way beyond my dreams. I started working an entry level job at a grocery store when I was 16 and waited tables at a restaurant whenever I could. Not sure what my pay was but I suppose it was minimum wage, like $3.60 per hour. They taught me about responsibilities and customer service and I use the skills they taught me in my career and life today. But the most rewarding thing of all? I got more pussy as a result of those jobs than any other time in my life, including 4 years at KU and 3 more years at law school.

  8. If they don’t want those $7 per hour jobs, maybe we should keep some of the Dreamers and fire the slackers that want $15 per hour.

  9. I forget the name of the McDonalds guy pictured in the photo, but if it's already been 5 years of protests, that means he could have earned a college degree or gone through a good vocational training program easily already.

Sorry, but I'm tired of seeing this guy's face in the media.

Is he at least a McDonalds manager by now?

  10. ^^^ Nope. Union stooge. He pretends to be a fast food worker but he's really a national labor organizer. He has even got a medal from Obama.

  11. If he isn't a war hero and he got a medal from Obama, he probably a leech on productive society.

  12. We have a great new program where we will match every contribution from knee taking NFL players. Program started last year and so far the grand total contributed by our NFL brothers who protest the inequities in America is over $0.00. Thank you NFL for reaching deep into those pockets and showing the nation your actions stand behind your words.
Thank God our brothers are not hypocrites and bullshit artists.

  13. Adjusted for inflation since its inception minimum wage would be over $20 a hour.

  14. Hey 11:47AM Kapernik just completed his pledge of $1 million dollars to inner city schools. You can look it up. There is a thing called the internet. Might want to try that before you post something else as ridiculous as what you just posted. This way at least, you wont be a stupid worthless racist, you'll just be a worthless racist.
