KANSAS CITY APPROVES 'BAN THE BOX' ORDINANCE: EMPTY GESTURE GIVEN INTERNETS BACKGROUND CHECK TECH OR JUST ANOTHER SMALL BIZ THREAT???
An ordinance sponsored by Councilman Jermaine Reed was successfully adopted by Council today and forbids employers from asking a very simple question about the felony history of applicants.
Thankfully, a simple Google search is usually pretty effective at weeding out creepers. For instance, among the denizens of the EPIC TKC Blog Community there are quite a few starving artists, failed reporters, struggling lawyers, barflies, politicos both old and new along with activists, former strippers and even some hottie housewives . . . Thank you Internets!!!
However, today's employment regulation push back is really a victory for social justice advocates who can now offer even more legislative proof of their influence. Meanwhile, most of the discussion at City Hall today reveals that social justice actually trumps legitimate biz concerns in Kansas City.
And so, once again, we put it to our blog community . . .
WILL YOU SNOOP ON PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYEES VIA INTERNETS BACKGROUND CHECK OR ABIDE BY THE SPIRIT OF KANSAS CITY "BAN THE BOX" LEGISLATION?!?!
Like it or not, amid the rise of increasing workplace violence, this question is a matter of life and death to local biz.
You decide . . .
Gotta love it. Jermaine is working to make life easier on felons. What a great platform for his mayoral campaign!
ReplyDeleteKnow your audience.
DeleteCan't blame the guy for playing to the crowd. More2 won the day and that's not a bad thing. At least they practice what they preach. One of their leaders is accused of choking a woman with a belt at City Hall.
Jermaine will be our next mayor.
DeleteThe guy has talent.
Just don't ask about his travel records. That's the next bit story that should hit about him. Think about it.

ReplyDeleteKcmo doesn’t hire felons, just so you know
ReplyDeleteI would hire a felon before I would hire a millennial or a hipster. Me and the felon would come to a straightforward understanding that would be unlikely to happen with a Punk millennial or hipster. I have know felons to be loyal and appreciative of someone trusting them and giving them a second chance.
ReplyDeleteThe city can pass all the ignorant ordinances it wants come the end of the day when you apply with me I will ask what I want and if you want the job you damn well better answer and with the truth. 8:39 I tried that crap twice got burned both times. But then maybe you're a crook looking for a crew.
ReplyDeleteIs Frank White hiring ?
ReplyDeleteWho cares? It's easy to do a background check and fire after hiring. That looks bad criminal history or not.

ReplyDeleteO.K. so let me get this straight. Business's can't ask if someone is a felon. I remember interviewing for a job at Helzberg years ago and I had to take a polygraph and was asked if I did drugs, stole anything, Etc. If business's can't do this anymore don't you think they will leave Kansas city and relocate somewhere else? After all their employees deal with large sums of money and merchandise.
Way to kill Kansas City!
@ 8:39, you can hire all the felons you want, but just don't ever fire one! They have no controls at all!
ReplyDeleteMissouri is hire and fire at will. This is just an SJW circle jerk!
ReplyDeleteLol.
ReplyDeleteYou don't have to "hire" anybody. Just ask for freelancers!
What's Next?
ReplyDeleteCAN THE COX!
METOO!
Can we hire some prostitutes? They can earn much more than $15 an hour. Maybe even double is they're willing to go the distance!
ReplyDeleteThere should be one exception, those who steal from the public and are elected.
ReplyDeleteSanders comes to mind.
What a joke of an ordinance. Jermaine is obviously not very friendly to local business and that should prevent him from becoming mayor of KC.
ReplyDeletePut people to work! Employment discrimination is a bad thing and it hurts more whites than anyone else. I agree with the liquor board controls but we need jobs for people and this was the right ordinance to make that happens.
ReplyDeleteIn the Gig Economy we will all just be renting out spare bedrooms and turning our cars into taxi cabs.
ReplyDeleteIt's the realization of the American Dream!
Is it time to start talking about the drug and dui felons who operate liquor licenses yet?
ReplyDelete^^^ Good call!
ReplyDeleteCan felons vote?
ReplyDeleteReed and his dummocrat party are begging for votes. Total disenfranchised: 89,664 can’t vote in Missouri and all of these are probably coloreds that live in killa city, the total destruction of morals all because dumbass dummocrats can’t get normal people to vote for them so they continue to lower the bar to get any votes they can, next they’ll fight for 12yr olds to vote! Effing morons
ReplyDeleteWhat a proud, progressive, libturd, All American City KC has become. Soon we will have a felon in every kitchen and no one will tell us. So exactly what is the point of classifying anyone a felon if it doesn't mean something for those who keep thier noses clean?
