Aftermath report straight from the source after a valiant petition effort was quickly undermined and a classic home is now rubble. Read more:

Hubbard House is Gone.

It is with great sadness I share that The Hubbard House is being torn down today. We were not given any warning or goodbye time. Thank you to EVERYONE who gave so much of their time, talents and treasures. Be at peace knowing we gave all we could.

  1. This just makes me sick. Lee's Summit did the same thing to the house Cole Younger built for his mother. That house was rebuilt and now sits somewhere in California.

Restoring old homes is a labor of love and very hard work, too bad some people don't appreciate what goes into it.

Central Hyde Park is another example of restoration bashing, a slap in the face to people who wanted to help the community, but instead home owners want to let the historic house fall into disrepair!

  2. Which house in Central Hyde Park are you talking about?

  3. The person I feel sorriest for is Mother Hubbard, who lived there for many years with her dog.

  5. I've lived here for 50 years and never heard of it but I agree with 7'44. In '77 some friends of mine and I bought a 6 plex at 41st and Charlotte and rehabbed it. Took almost 3 years but it was a labor of love. Bob Berdella lived just down the street. He'd stop by once in a while and talk to the 6 or so of us on weekends. Bought us beer a few times. The whole KC area has some beautiful old buildings.

  8. That house sat empty for years with no interest until someone decided to tear it down and build an apartment complex, then it was like OMG this is historical we have to save it and move it.

  9. Olathe is the smelly armpit of JoCo. That they would raze this historical property to throw up yet another apartment complex should come as no surprise.
