TKC WINTER MONDAY QUESTION: SHOULD KANSAS CITY JUST ACCEPT DANGEROUS FROZEN ICE STREETS???

Once again a cold weather Kansas City neighborhood complaint emerges from residents throughout this town . . .

WHY CAN'T KANSAS CITY DEAL WITH DANGEROUS AND ICE PACKED NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS???

To be fair, the main roads are passable and city workers have done a valiant job to keep traffic moving.

But most of the side streets are simply garbage.

Local residents might remember that it didn't always used to be this way . . . Neighborhoods regularly witnessed KCMO trucks working to keep their neighborhood streets passable.

Alas, this practice is no more as, yet again, City Hall seems focused on taking care of residents inside the loop first and foremost.

You decide . . .

  1. De-annexing is the only solution.

Just too many square miles to cover.

Also, KC doesn't budget for this stuff anymore. We'd rather give away money to developers.

    1. This has actually gotten better under Sly. Funkhouser was the worst when it came to this. It seemed like he hated his neighbors in Brookside and wanted to get revenge.

A few more chuckholes here and there, a few less city services as well.

  6. Agree with poster at 3:47 p.m. - too much area for this one-horse town to take care of because the leaders couldn't stop from gobbling up land. They kept gulping and swallowing in the hope that more people would move in, pay taxes, and help the City to grow, grow, grow.

Alas, you can't grow yourself out of financial trouble. Nor can you give away ALL your tax dollars to the sharks known as developers. Streets will ALWAYS be a mess. Always.

  9. Divide the city along county lines, it is too large to service effectively.

  10. Mayor Sylvester "Sly" James care for each and everyone of you. Did you ever hear the one he opened for Jefferson Airplane with his band "Manchester Traffic way"?

  11. The City has decided to rely only on a "Solar Powered" Snow Removal System for all Northland residential streets.

This is a switch from the former system whereby City trucks drove through the streets at ten mph above the speed limits with their plow blades six inches off the ground so their GPS systems would register coverage.

  15. JoCo rocks in this department. Just sayin. Kudos and appreciation to the road crew workers in JoCo.

  16. ^^^ Hate to say it but this is accurate. JoCo streets are clear in neighborhoods but my office in Midtown KC might as well be an ice rink.

  18. Most of the KC residential streets were clear on my route this afternoon.

So the only thing we can conclude is that the author is a bitchy little liar.

  20. Who brags about a route on KCMO streets? " Most of ". Is that 3/4, 1/3 ??? Idiot

  21. Fuck the, "we have too many miles of road to plow/salt," excuse. It's built so find a way to fund it. Do not build one more god-damned inch of new street until the City can manage what is already built. Jesus, it's not that hard to figure out. There is plenty of money in the General fund.

  22. The bow ties dipshit needs to save the money not spent on the streets , he's gotta save up for hanging out at the homosexual dump Diebels on the Plaza TRANNY hangout to smoke overpriced shit cigars and drink$ 300 a bottle Scotch !

  23. So-called emergency snow routes have been a part of the metro area since I came there in 1980. The existence of these thoroughfares is due to the fact that the Metro has more streets than can be plowed and salted at any one time. It may shock some of you said he did Weller's to know that this actually happens out in the rural areas as well. They plow and salt the main roads first, then the secondary roads. It's winter in Missouri and this is a fact of life.

  25. Kansas City is enormous in terms of square miles -- twice the size of Chicago proper.

Each year we have just a couple of really bad days in KC. I don't think the so-so street treatment is a big deal.

  26. Only pants-shitting geezers who never leave their house are bitching about the streets. They were fine. You all would know that if you ventured out every once in a while. Better yet...stay inside. We don't need your dumb asses on the road.

  27. You ought to be in LeesSummit, could not get even the major roads cleared.
