TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! KANSAS CITY BID TO SNAG AMAZON HQ2 FAILS!!! HERE'S WHY!!!

This morning the news broadcast an inevitability that the denizens of our blog community called FIRST.

To wit . . .

DESPITE AN EMBARRASSING SPAM EFFORT AND A GREAT DEAL OF BIZ HYPE . . . AMAZON PASSED OVER KANSAS CITY IN THEIR SEARCH FOR AMAZON HQ2!!!

For those who already forgot about KC's doomed bid:

ZDNET: Kansas City mayor spams Amazon reviews in bid for headquarters

Additionally, here are a few more reasons why KCMO was quickly booted off the list . . .

1. High Crime - 2017 was the deadliest year in KC since 1993. Moving employees into a war zone just isn't good business.

2. Fight For $15 - There's a war over wages and one of the biggest retailers in the world likely didn't want to risk small town politicos cutting into their profit margins.

3. The Rent Is Too High - For most of it's recorded history, KC has touted an affordable cost of living. Amid a speculative Downtown & Crossroads luxury living space boom - $2500-a-month rent just seems too steep for small town life and this fact isn't lost on tourists.

Again this is NOT a surprise for smarter denizens of the local discourse but comes as a shocker for so many tech scene denizens who mistakenly believed local tech hype. To be fair it's not all bad news as effort to build HQ3 is already underway and KC is already a hub for the distribution of a great deal of cheap Chinese merch.

  1. I think the Mayor spamming Amazon reviews wasn't a total loss. Now we know what NOT to do when it comes to luring tech companies to KC.

  2. I think this is awesome, suck it up Mayor Bullhorn you lose big!

Next, all of you California people get the hell out of here!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Good. Let someone else give away millions in local tax breaks to Amazon, not that our wonderful mayor didn't try his best to give away KC to this monster company.

    ReplyDelete
  4. It was the crime. Look at cities across the nation. Crime is going DOWN except in places like KC and Chicago. Even in New York they are dealing with record lows for crime. KC is now getting a horrible reputation as a place that can't deal with crime and it's costing us jobs and opportunities.

I'm not a big advocate about "saving" the people who commit crime or career criminals but we have to look at crime as a cause of KC losing out on this project and so many others.

    1. Not crime so much as KC's inability to lock up criminals.

    2. The trains are nice and crime might have been a factor but it's more about the proximity to shipping from Amazon's Chinese mother land.

No big loss. The company is killing the country anyway.

    3. GUNS. Blame guns.

Amazon is against stupid laws like open carry.

It's you geezers and so called conservatives who are chasing away all of the business.

    4. “conservatives chasing away all of the business”

    1. ^^^ Stupid. That's how you spent your day? I think that should stand as a testament to idiocy of KC residents and how they don't really deserve more jobs or prosperity.

  6. Oh good, now we don't need the new airport.

    ReplyDelete
  7. KC never had a chance. It was a waste of time and money and just another opportunity to have Sly put his face out there for his upcoming Congressional run. I guess that's how much influence he really has.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Agree that the bid could have been more professional. It came off very amateurish. I would like to see our city talk about safe neighborhoods, good schools and great services as our selling point.

Instead we just got the Mayor acting like a goofball on youtube.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Insult to injury: They're probably going to just build another one in Portland.

    ReplyDelete
  10. KC Choked just like the Chiefs

    ReplyDelete
  11. Since it looks like we're making a list here, let's go with the E-Tax!

All of the confusion that causes our local business is shameful. That's probably one of the biggest culprits that keeps amazon and the rest away. They don't come because they know they're getting into a huge accounting nightmare.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ^^^ +100 - Yep. But don't forget that KC has some blame there. The e-tax always wins by huge margins when it's up for a vote and they want to continue to extend it for 10 years at a time.

      Delete
    2. E-tax limits most local businesses. But it's a tax on Johnson County so there isn't a lot of local will to remove it, you can't blame people for wanting somebody else to pay for their good time. It's the Trump way!

  16. They don't want to set up shop in a city that doesn't know how to handle money is on the way to going broke.

  17. Remember when Sly James and the Kool Aid drinkers tried to convince voters that we could get the Amazon hq2 if we voted for the new airport?

    Personally, I blame the schools.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Agree with hyperblogal.

They'd rather come to Jersey than KC.

    Slap in the face!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Blame Sly. He promised big things but did not deliver.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mayor Sly spams, Mayor Sly loses.

    Why is this so surprising?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Guess this means the resale on our homes will not be going up 50%.

  23. KC Greeting Card1/18/18, 2:59 PM

Sorry KC, you'll get them again next season!

    ReplyDelete
  24. But I hear we're getting another Arby's

    Arby's HQ2?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Really disappointing that so many people are gloating about this. There's only one thing in this article that is right.

This puts KC in the right position to compete for other Amazon projects.

Some of us want to keep the momentum going for our community, some of us want KC to move forward!

NO!!! YOU MUST BE SHITTING YOUR PANTS OVER THIS NONSTOP!!! A VERITABLE STREAM OF DIARRHEA MUST FLOW!!!

  27. I think the words of our great city manager say it best.

    He has the right idea:

“It was a creative bid, and we will continue to be aggressive in pursuing these opportunities for KCMO. After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Also, the national publicity for Kansas City generated by this competition shared news about our city’s momentum and economic growth,” City Manager Troy Schulte said in a statement.

    1. Nope. Amazon got one good look at our comedy of a City Hall and decided on Jersey.

But, but, but we have STREETCAR!!!

  32. ^^^ But I guess this didn't help get us those jobs after all.

    :(

  33. KC never had a chance, but I think Jo Co would probably be in the running, just for the very reasons KC will never be in the running: low crime, reasonable housing costs, and a friendlier population.

    ReplyDelete
  34. the first question is whether a city gives a first impression of having its act together and is unified for progress.

even those of us who love our city admit that it might not look that good to outsiders.

the farcical airport show early on would have made a bad impression, for example, even though it ay work out ok.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mayor, YOU LIED!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Here is why.............Killa City is a shithole infested with killer boons and a over population of skin fluters.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Huge failure for Mayor Amateur Night and the hilarious pack of grifter goons in the city clowncil.

  38. Just trying to help1/18/18, 6:46 PM

Better to love and lost than never to have loved at all.

But yes, we should release the bids so we can see how much KC spent on this debacle.

  39. Never enough female skin fluters.
