TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER DENOUNCES SHORT TERM FUNDING AS GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN ENDS FOR NOW!!!

The blame game continues but most pundits seem to agree that Democratic Party leaders lost this battle to Prez Trump & his hard-line supporters.

Check the round-up for better sources than local armchair journalists:

New York Times: Congress Passes Stopgap Bill to End Government Shutdown

WaPo: Winners and losers of the government shutdown

CNN: A big loss for Schumer and the Democrats

ABC: Congress agrees to fund government for 3 weeks; immigration debate continues

Fox: Team Schumer caves on filibuster as House, Senate approve end to shutdown; Trump signs bill

Better still . . .

IN A FIERY STATEMENT AMID VOTING, CONGRESSMAN CLEAVER OFFERS HIS PERSPECTIVE ON THIS SHORT TERM FUNDING SOLUTION!!!

Here's the word from KC's top ranking elected official, the highlights belong to TKC . . .

Congressman Cleaver Maintains Stance on Funding The Government, Says “No” to Short Term Funding

The government can no longer continue to operate without a budget, must end continuing resolutions.

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II intends to vote “no” on the short term spending bill. The country cannot continue to operate on piecemeal spending legislation. The bill on the House floor today would only provide funding for the next three weeks and fails to address the domestic and military spending caps to better support hard working families and to enhance our national security.

“Congress hasn’t passed a budget in years. We have been operating on short term continuing resolutions and now we are prepared to vote on a fourth one this year. I cannot, in good conscience, vote for something that I deem as irresponsible,” said Congressman Cleaver.

It is imperative that Congress pass a long-term appropriations bill in addition to finding solutions to several key issues facing the country. Though this bill reauthorizes CHIP for six years, it does not provide funding for community health centers. Additionally the bill does nothing to save American’s endangered pensions – an issue that has been a priority for many in my district. DREAMers are offered no protection under this legislation and will continue to face the threat of deportation. President Trump created this crisis and has yet to calm their worries.

“Businesses can’t plan their fiscal year without knowing how much to spend, or what to spend it on. Even non-profit organizations and churches can’t operate without a budget. Why does the President or Congress, for that matter, believe the government can operate in this way. It is time to stop and do the job we were elected to do,” said Congressman Cleaver.

  1. Hate to say it but the Congressman makes a good point. Trump & Co won this round solidly but patience from voters is going to grow thin if we have to do this all over again next month.

    1. Why should the outcome be any different then?

The Republicans are likely to win that fight too. It can't be about DACA and Dreamers. American's aren't going to get behind that even if generally they support it. But this time it was easy to beat Democrats on this because they were arguing for something that very few supported. And what really happened is that there were more tax breaks for corporations added to this bill under everyone's noses.

    2. Trump wins.

What happened to all of that low approval polling data.

Guess it didn't turn out that way.

      Sorry, not sorry.

Change the something to someone and you'll understand why I can't vote for the Rev. Cleaver.

  4. The feeble voice of a local blogger. If this blogger was paying attention, he'd know Cleaver is just in line with all the Dems, battling the majority party over the shutdown and the propaganda put forth by Trump and GOP leadership!

It's not shock and outrage, Cleaver's just saying what is in the MEMO!

Stick to Shitty Hall politics, Tony! National level is way above your pay grade! Peeps who want to know Congressional politics will not be coming in HERE since you don't have the connections.

  5. Cleaver needs to focus on improving the eastside of KC instead worrying about illegals. Cleaver and democrats are losing because they put illegals ahead citizens that actually elected them.

  6. The Democrats shut down OUR government over an issue about illegal aliens and all voted against giving US a tax break. Look up what congressmen are saying about the FISA memo they are be allowed to read in a secure safe room and what it says about further abuse of power by the Democratic Party.

  9. An authority on being irresponsible with money.

  10. Cleaver shouldn't be speaking about anything. He so far in left field no one can hit it that far. He should just shut up. He won't be reelected when his term is up. Oh, I forget, to many dumb libtards in Missouri. That's why our state is going to shit.

  11. Cleaver is incensed that illegal immigrants he calls "Dreamers" are not yet permanently able to take unskilled labor jobs away from African American citizens. But somehow his base constituency eats it up. Go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Nobody in Congress cares what Cleaver thinks about much of anything.
In fact, most folks in Washington don't even know who he is.
    Including the Democrats.
He'll finally retire after decades without leaving so much as a fingerprint.

  13. How is illegal aliens can break laws and get away with it but Americans citizens can’t??? They will fight harder for them than us,

“Congress hasn’t passed a budget in years. So how is this all trumps fault?

  19. Congressman Worthless Carwash is slinging mud at himself again! Does this early-Alzheimer's man realize that HE'S a member of Congress?

Contrary to the fake news agenda, things will only get worse for Democrats in 2018. By Summer, the Republican Congress will be holding Watergate-style hearings on "Obamagate", a massive coordinated attempted coup d'etat of a duly elected President by former President Obama, his top advisors, the Justice Dept., and the FBI leadership. Republicans will hold or increase their majority in Congress.

  20. Fuck You Radioman, your claim to fame is, nothing that is what, so before you call someone else a loser, go look in the mirror asshole and you will see a loser.

  21. Let me understand this: For how many years has Cleaver voted for CR's, Continuing Resolutions, when it serves his purpose? Without a real budget for years in Congress.

But today he has a spine, and by golly, no more CR's??

Of course we need Congress to operate on a budget, instead of these skirmishes to protect the jobs of Congressmen.

Which is why the COS cause is taking off across the country--a Convention of States, to pass a constitutional amendment requiring a budget in Congress--annually. A balanced budget.

But it will be called for by 34 state legislatures, (Mo is already in, Ks not yet.) NOT by Congress. And certainly Rev. Cleaver will not be the MLK leader on that.

  22. Have to agree with MY Congressman. This wasn't a compromise, it was sham.

He was right to reject the whole thing.

  23. Don't blame me, I didn't vote for either one of these crooks.

  24. Clever- Who cares...
Lets invest or money in the 18th and Vine District.
The sooner he figures out that social engineering is not going to come from the Government the better.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And of course, Clever has no investments so the government shutdown effects on Wall Street mean nothing to him.
Evangelical ministers are on both sides of the political spectrum. In balance these ministers are very poor at doing their jobs and should be voted out of politics.
Clever has done little to help his constituents and should leave office as soon as possible.
