TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! STREETCAR MUSIC FESTIVAL PRICE TAG REVEALED AS KANSAS CITY HOLIDAY SEASON BILLS COME DUE!!!

As we reach the middle of January, Kansas City residents confront the consequences of holiday spending whilst bills pile up.

To wit . . .

SPECIAL THANKS TO THE KANSAS CITY STREETCAR AUTHORITY FOR ANSWERING THE TKC REQUEST FOR INFORMATION & REVEALING THE PRICE TAG OF THE RECENT HOLIDAY JAM!!!

We talked about this local transit music fest as it happened - The Kansas City Streetcar Holiday Jam 2017 hosted nine live musical performances on board the streetcars and at streetcar stops. Music ranged from traditional holiday music, covers and original music performed by local artists.

Credit where it's due . . . This effort helped boost ridership numbers during the December doldrums as the streetcar counted 150,330 "unlinked passenger trips" in 2017 vs. 128,155 in December 2016 - A 17.3% increase.

Accordingly . . .

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! CHECK THE ITEMIZED PRICE TAG FOR THE KC STREETCAR HOLIDAY JAM 1ST AND ONLY ON TKC!!!

And what we interpret from these numbers is simple - Streetcar ridership demands constant promotion to earn share of mind from the public. The December ridership increase deserves recognition but also the acknowledgement that the passenger uptick did not come without a cost - Promotion of the toy train is an expenditure that other modes of transit, like the bus, do not require.

Going forward, Kansas City voters need an understanding of all the factors influencing ridership trends beyond promotional hype that only touts press release milestones instead of the price that taxpayers must subsidize.

  1. Ya gotta spend money to make money.

Too bad the streetcar doesn't make money. It's time we start talking about charging a fare if they're going to have live entertainment and free merchandise on board.

    1. But no freebies for the bus?

      That's a shame.

What's the big difference, a lot more people ride the downtown bus but we don't get a free concert. Most of us have to pay our own way and fend for ourselves to avoid getting killed at the stops. The difference here is out of line and a very real sign of KC transit disparity.

    2. What it really confirms is the same touristy frou-frou complaint that we've been dealing with since day one.

For me = $0 everything is FREE when you come to Downtown Kansas City.

The streets are paved with gold. And your question is stupid. What does it cost to run the bus? What does it cost to drive a car? It's all relative and that's why I'm a hipster and only ride the the Bike KC rentals. I've got a yearly pass and in the winter I just live underneath the coffee shop.

  4. ^^^ Take your meds.

    The streetcar is rolling along.

Can we get a damn trivia night now?

  5. It's a good thing we have the busses. They had to rescue the streetcar three times in the last couple weeks. If it wasn't for busses the street car riders would have been stranded. What a joke !

Screw you guys! We're converting all of the buses to streetcars at only 500% the cost. But we will be charging fares to any of the shithole communities outside of the Downtown/Crossroads district. Sorry bitches.
