TAXPAYERS HATE THE KANSAS CITY STAR: IS PROPERTY VALUE COMPLAINT VALID???

Put on blast throughout social media, here's a bit of local discontent with a dead-tree media corporation . . .

Kansas City Star is hurting the community and costing the city milllions

"The Star has changed the value of their property they own for years. They had the property value was dropped from 22 million to 10 million and then they had the tax rate locked in for 10 years. This has cost the city about 4 million dollars. Why isn't the Star paying their fair share?"

We've talked about this issue year after year but the homespun take is also worth a look.

Is this a fair criticism or just standing operating procedure for most big biz in the modern era of downtown speculation???

You decide . . .

  1. Absolutely a valid criticism and something that the public needs to be reminded of time and time again.

    1. I wouldn't mind if they would offer some balance and not just serve as a mouthpiece for the Hillary Clinton wing of the Democratic Party.

    2. Meh. Sounds a little bit to serious for me.

The mobile phone killed the Star long ago.

They just don't know it yet.

  2. Saw this on their twitter feed earlier today. It was fun, they threw a hissy fit in response back and then deleted everything and blocked like 8 people. LULZ!

    Nice post TKC.

  3. This is what happens when tax breaks are handed out like candy on halloween... their break expired and the city gave them a new one.... the hand-outs will never end.

  5. Not only avoid the cost of property value via reduced property tax, but they mis-lead the ass wipes that still read their paper with fake/not true analysis which make the public vote the wrong way.

Like someone else said, they're just a mouth piece for City Hall.
They should be sued for spreading mis-information.

I used their media for cat pot filler.

  9. Graveyard media deserves to die a miserable death for choosing to endorse political candidates and alienate half of their prospective customers. I stopped buying the paper and placing classified ads long ago when I learned about liberal run media.

  14. Libtard should now have a valid dictionary entry. After all, it has been proven to be a mental disorder. Manifesting itself as Trump Derangement Syndrome, pro illegal immigration, anti-police, anti-white, pro radical Islam, radical feminism, pro communism, etc..

  16. Want to make a mint on their demise?
    Short their stock.
Keep encouraging them to hire more divisive editorial people like Jenee and encourage them to write what they think and encourage divisive topics. This helps alienate people and causes even more people to not read it.
Keep copying and pasting the really controversial writings so people become more divided and quit reading.
    Short their stock.
Keep asking them to get rid of good long time reporters and go for the cheap reporters who bring race up and stir the pot with nonsense.
Short their stock and tell Tony Berg he is doing a great job.
